for which it was due. He walked into God’s chambers and Hermes left shutting the door behind him, although, and Lucifer would put coin on it, Hermes was most likely sitting on the other side of that door with his ear pressed against it, as Lucifer once did a long time ago when he was just a cherub, and Lucifer knew that you could hear everything clear as crystal by doing just that. The room was expansive and instead of matching the rest of Heaven with the White walls and white everything, there were browns and greens, more earthy tones. There was a desk that took up one side of the room, across from the desk sat a pair of oversized plush chairs. It had been made to look rather warm and inviting.
God - So how are you, my son?
God stood behind the desk, moving out to in front of it to greet his son. He looked more worried and worn than Lucifer remembered, but despite God’s personal problems he would always be polite.
Lucifer - Well, it is much cooler here than I’m used to. So, there is that. So, what is the big emergency?
Lucifer hated beating around the bush, but he also wanted to get out of Heaven before Michael returned from wherever he currently was. Lucifer still had not really gotten over the fact that it had been Michael to put Lucifer in hell and locked the gates. Obviously, things had gotten better between their father and Lucifer since the gates had been unlocked, but Michael and he still loathed one another, well past the point of sibling rivalry.
God - We have a problem with a human couple.
Lucifer - What kind of problem? And why not send one of the other Arch Angels? Why
send me?
God - An angel was born to a human couple, well not exactly an Angel per se
Lucifer started laughing.
Lucifer - Good one father, now really what’s the problem?
God just stood there looking as serious as he had ever looked. It took Lucifer a few minutes to
realize that his father, the almighty; the big “G” man; was in fact not joking and being entirely
serious.
Lucifer - How is that even possible? How did you even let that happen? How COULD
you let this happen?
God looked just as dumb founded as Lucifer’s questions sounded. Humans could not see a celestial being without being blinded by their grace, and for a human to give birth to one by
mistake was unheard of. There were the few who were already blind that God gave miracle
children to and those were Nephilim, but if this was pure accident as was being suggested, there were so many things that could go wrong for both mother and child.
God - We are not sure how this happened. I am looking into it. I have sent Gabriel down to watch over the mother for the time being until we could figure things out.
Lucifer - Then what do you need me for if Gabriel is down there? Everything should be
covered then.
Lucifer then had the sudden realization of exactly what god wanted of him at this point and time.
Lucifer - No. I will not being doing baby duty. Have your precious Michael do it. I have
more important things to do then watch a child.
Why would God choose Lucifer for the pick of watching the over the child. He had to keep
control over Hell; he did not have time to watch over a child.
God - Michael cannot. He is in Greece dealing with the outcasts. They have created Titans now.
Lucifer - Still not understanding why me? You have other angels, what about Raphael, or
Uriel or any of the other Archangels? Why cannot one of them watch over the child?
God visibly became angry in an instant and Lucifer knew firsthand God’s wrath was not
something anyone, Angel or human, ever wanted to feel, but Lucifer also didn’t care. There had
to be some other reason as to why he was the one being chosen for this.
God - You are doing it Lucifer. End of story. This is not up for debate.
Lucifer - And who exactly will run hell then? Or am I to do both? Babysit and run hell at
the same time?
God - Use Beelzebub and some of the demons and souls to help watch over the Child
and over Hell, but I want your focus to be on the child Lucifer
Lucifer - Still not understanding the why I am the one being chosen for this? It is not like
I am just sitting down there doing nothing all the time
God - Let’s leave it at because not only am I your father but I am also God, and because
I said so, that is why I chose you.
Lucifer scowled at his father and threw his hands up in defeat.
Lucifer - FINE! You win I will have Beelzebub and the demons, not the human souls, watch Hell while I am on Earth and figure the rest out later. How long will this be for?
God smiled and walked back over to his enormous, oversized desk and took a file off the top of it handing it to Lucifer.
God - We do not know how long yet, but just until we figure out what to do. Here is the information you will need. Thank you for agreeing to this Lucifer. It shows you truly have grown up and matured
Lucifer took the file while grumbling incoherently bout not really having a choice while he was looking through the random mini paintings of who Lucifer was assuming were the parents of the child angel, Lucifer was reading the papers and stopped when he got to the location of where the child was being born and where it’s life will be spent.
Lucifer - You are sending me to Babylon?! Are you insane?! Do not answer that because
You must be for sending me somewhere where they HATE us! They constantly call us unnatural ones and that we are the ones who go against your will of all things!
Lucifer could not believe what he was seeing, the Babylonian humans were, without a doubt, thee most ignoramus of the creations his father had ever created. The Angels had saved the city when they had tried to make their silly and ridiculous tower. Some humans had fallen ill from the inhalation of the dust and dirt for so long and had started babbling incoherently like nitwits, those humans eventually turned it into their own language saying it was God’s will and it was done in spite for trying to reach Heaven, little did they know Heaven and Hell were not up or down in comparison to earth but rather it paralleled to its dimension.
God - Oh come on Luci, you’ll be able to blend right in with your anger towards your
siblings.
God sort of mock laughed at his own joke
Lucifer - Father, please do not call me that, I detest that blasphemous moniker, and how
would I blend in? I am not exactly of their world, and they can’t exactly be around me for extended periods of time?
God - True there is that whole acting upon their deepest desires when they have been
around you for too long, but we will figure it out another time, I need Gabriel
back up here, so you need to be leaving soon.
Lucifer - Fine, I need to go to hell and get the arrangements taken care of for the over
sight of it and then I will be able to leave for Babylon.
With that Lucifer turned and left God’s chambers before God could respond. When Lucifer
opened the door he almost toppled over Hermes who had been doing exactly what
Lucifer had thought and had not been fast enough to get out of the way of being trampled.
Hermes - Whoops
Hermes brushed the nonexistent dirt and dust off himself as he stood back up.
Lucifer - I thought you were supposed to be fast there Hermes, guess you are getting slow with your old age, and I’m sure you could have just asked and you would have been allowed in
Hermes - I’m still faster than you Devil, and it is way more fun this way.
Hermes smiled wide and broad, like an imp up to something mischievous. It un-nerved Lucifer
immensely, no one ever really knew what side Hermes was really on when it came to those fallen Angels or God himself, or if he still sided with his creators the humans. Hermes skipped off to do whatever it was he did when he was not being Gods little errand boy.
Lucifer - Because that wasn’t creepy and suspicious in the slightest
Lucifer said turning his shaking head to himself and walked down the long white hall toward the elevator that would take him down to Hell. It was a new development of the peace between his father and he, he knew he should take the stairs more often, but it was a very long way down and the elevator was just way more convenient for him and God to get between the two as often as they liked, plus it wasn’t like any of them ever had to worry about heart disease or staying in shape. Lucifer pressed the button to call the elevator, and the steel doors pinged open, they were the only things not white in the hallway. He stepped in and selected the topmost button, the doors slammed shut and the elevator dropped with a hurtling speed, with just as much force slammed into a stop once it arrived at the desired location and the doors sprang open.
Beelzebub was standing at the doors waiting. He was another fallen Angel, but was so completely and utterly devoted to Lucifer, that he filled in often for when Lucifer did not want to attend something. He was built very similar to Lucifer, he was tall for an Angel, he wasn’t
necessarily broad but he was far from slender. His hair matched Lucifer’s jet black, he was
slightly darker than Lucifer in skin tone but not by much. The only noticeable difference between the two were their eyes. Lucifer’s eyes were red, and Beelzebub’s were black, and because it was so often that he took Lucifer’s spot for things people generally thought Beelzebub was Lucifer most of the time. Neither of them minded much, it helped keep things running smoothly and made both of their existences much easier. Lucifer stepped out of the elevator and immediately headed for his chambers.
Lucifer - Beezle, glad you are here I’m going to Babylon for a few days to take care of something for our father. So, I will need you to cover for me here and keep things running. We need to find a few souls to start the building for the entrance to home sweet home here for them to be able get their assignments so they can begin paying their penance. I also need you to pull the files for all the souls who were nannies and parents that sort of thing as well, make sure they are not too bad, I want the doting type not the horrible, gas lighting, overly dependent on their child type. I will fill you in when I get back with what’s going on. Right now, I just need to get to my chambers and pack.
Beelzebub - Well, this should be an interesting story then ha-ha
Beelzebub started laughing slightly with a puzzled look on his face.
Lucifer - You have no idea Beezle, ha-ha it is definitely a crazy one that I can’t wait to
share with you. It will just have to wait for me to get back from the humans
realm.
They had been walking down the dark corridor the moment Lucifer stepped out of the
elevator. They were efficient in their ability to walk and talk. They had just reached the doors to
Lucifer’s personal chambers. The heavy door was made of ash the carvings were intricately
detailed all done by Lucifer himself. They told the story of how Michael locked Lucifer in this
prison that became his home after some time. That door was now sitting slightly ajar and someone could be heard moving around inside. Lucifer lowered his voice to a whisper
Lucifer - Um was I expecting someone today Beezle?
Beelzebub - Ha-Ha not to my knowledge sir, but we only know of one person, if you can
even call her that, that would be daft enough to enter your personal chambers
without a summons and without permission. Do we not?
The two were speaking in hushed tones as realization hit Lucifer and the look of annoyance and realization spread across his face as he slammed the heavy door open, startling the person in the room as Beezle began laughing.
Lucifer - Oh, for f***s sake! MEDUSA! What do you think you are doing in my private chambers this time?!
A slender woman turned away from the drawer she had been digging in, to face him with a look of shock on her face. She would have been beautiful if not for the snakes atop her head that made up what should have been her hair and the green hue her skin had with random scales that were the only blemishes on an otherwise, perfect clear complexion. Her eyes looked much like the snakes upon her scalp, other than the color which was a stone grey. She sauntered over to Lucifer and Beelzebub and looked them both up and down like something looking at its next meal. When her eyes glazed over Beelzebub, she gave a disapproving look and a half chuckle, however when her eyes were done looking Lucifer over, she licked her lips in approval.
Medusa - Sorry lover was just trying to see if I left my undergarments here last night, I
cannot seem to find them anywhere.
She was playing with one of the snakes, like a woman twirling her hair around her finger; it glided itself through her fingers softly and slowly entwining itself gently around her hand in a seductive sultry way.
Lucifer - No, I have not because you didn’t leave anything here because it was not my bed you occupied last night now leave Medusa before I lock you up with the other outcasts below.
Lucifer snarled and Medusa initially looked like she had been slapped, but she quickly recovered
with a scowl across her face to cover the hurt she portrayed. Lucifer did not have time to play her petty little games today, so he didn’t actually care if he hurt her feelings or not. He shoved her out the door and slammed it shut behind her. Beelzebub was still laughing so Lucifer hit him in the arm while shaking his head in disbelief.
Lucifer - I do not understand that creature in the slightest. She is mentally unstable and she will not stop turning the human souls to stone for simply looking in her general direction
Beelzebub - Sir I believe she thinks she’s in love with you and you in love with her
Lucifer raised an eyebrow and scoffed at that statement.
Lucifer - That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard that creature only loves herself, enough of the topic, back down to business. To recap I will be going to Babylon, and I’ll be going back and forth for a while, time frame for how long this will be happening is unknown, so I will need you to cover for me here and keep things running smoothly. Any questions?
Beelzebub - Only one that I can think of currently, will you be needing protection or back up against the Babylonians?
Lucifer looked at Beelzebub, ignored the question with a smirk, and raised eyebrow realizing
Beezle was just being a smartass.
Lucifer - Ha-ha well since there are no serious questions, please go and summon Charon so I can leave. I will be up there shortly, I just need to pack a few things
Beelzebub laughed.
Beelzebub - Right away sir
Beelzebub left the room, and Lucifer began to quickly look around for anything he may need, he grabbed a set of human garments and put them in a burlap sack. He also changed into a set of human garments to blend in better with them. He then walked out of his chambers making sure to check that the locking mechanism was latched so there would be no more surprise visitors while he was away; he then started towards the stairs for the upper levels of Hell. The elevator was still under construction for that part of the place unfortunately, but it will make existence much easier once it has been completed.
Lucifer reached the top of the stairs that led out to the entrance of Hell. It was currently
an empty cavern with a large lake that had another entrance on the opposite side of the lake that only a boat could pass through. Although beautiful, the lake was deadly to all creations and even God himself. No one not even God is aware of how it came to be but there is only one who can touch it without being trapped into the waters for eternity. That would be Charon, who again was another mystery as no one can place his creation. He was found in this cave and took people upstairs for the right fee when they passed but also managed to put so many souls into the water before he had been discovered. Charon could always tell when a soul was just too dark. He just had to look at the soul and he knew. Out of the many years since Charon had been found, neither God nor Lucifer had ever heard him speak but a few words to the souls, he tended to only speak to Lucifer and God. The souls had named him the Ferryman, for the pure simple reason that he ferried them from the human world to Heaven and now Hell.
Lucifer walked to the edge of the dock where Charon was waiting in his boat. It appeared
Beelzebub had clearly already disappeared, and since Beezle and Charon hated one another it
made complete sense that he took off as quickly as he could.
Charon - Lucifer
Lucifer - Ah, Charon always a pleasure. How have you been doing? Enjoying your lake I
hope
Charon - Mortal realm sir?
Lucifer had almost forgotten how dull and to the point Charon could be at all times, the guy just didn’t seem to know how to have fun apparently.
Lucifer - Not in the mood for conversation, eh? Fine, you win, yes, the human realm
please.
Charon - Hold on tight.
Charon began rowing towards the open mouth that was on the other side of the cavern
with a dizzying speed that Lucifer would have to talk to him about later when he had time. It had the potential to make souls even more disoriented. But for now, it worked out to his advantage, because the sooner he was able to make it to the human realm, the sooner he could deal with things there and be back in Hell. He really needed to set up a way to get between the two places without having to be ferried every time when a soul was not involved. It would definitely make things easier getting to the human’s plane if bypassing the lake could be accomplished. They made it through to the second cavern that was set in Earths realm in record time. Lucifer did not wait for the boat to finish docking before rising and stepping onto the deck beside it. The moment his foot left the vessel Charon was already back rowing to some other part of the caverns. Lucifer had wanted to talk to God at one point about making something for Charon that was all his own. Something away from heaven and Hell, somewhere that would be just for him, and then Lucifer found that there were multiple caverns all too different times and places. And Charon had full run of it all, so giving Charon somewhere of his own would be pointless since he already had all of the undiscovered parts of the space to himself as his own private place. Lucifer walked to the opening of the Earthly plane cavern. It was a small opening the size of a man. Only a single occupant could cross through the opening to the other side at a time.
The tunnel opened up into a patch of trees. Humans tended to be afraid of the woods. It was only the select few that saw the souls go into these woods yet they never saw them return and they made sure to tell everyone in hearing distance, so it was understandable why they thought the woods were cursed and evil, however it was a good thing they were afraid of the woods because it meant that the entrance to the other plane did not require much hiding, one day it would need to be more hidden, but for now there was nothing to worry about for the time being. Lucifer began the trek through the woods to the city. He would be able to blend in with the humans for the most part, however, Humans in the presence of him or any other celestial being for that matter began to act differently, some began acting out their deepest desires, some began seeing their worst fears, it was like they lost all common sense. Every Angel did something different to the humans. It was why the Angels were prohibited from spending too much time on earth with the humans.
So, all Lucifer had to do was relieve Gabriel, watch over the child and its human family, and all while limiting humanities contact with him. Should be a piece of cake, what could
go wrong. His father had not thought this through very clearly. All Angels could feel each other’s presence, so Lucifer focused on his surroundings to find his brother Gabriel. He found him on the edge of the opposite side of the city on a small farm with an even smaller house. When he arrived, he found Gabriel outside pacing. He looked terrified, and for him it was not unheard of, Gabriel wasn’t exactly the toughest of the bunch, but yet something in Lucifer’s gut, told him something was very, very wrong, there was something that seemed not quite right about the situation happening in the small house.
Lucifer - Gabriel, what is going on, why are you outside instead of inside watching over the family like we were ordered to?
Gabriel - The child, the mother, she died during labor, they laid the child on her chest, and the child’s father began screaming about a demon…
Gabriel’s voice shook with each word, like he did not entirely believe he was saying it all; like he didn’t believe what he saw. His face paled with each breath he took and each word he spoke. He looked almost transparent. When he looked at Lucifer, Gabriel’s eyes pleaded with him to believe the words he spoke.
Gabriel - All it did was look at him and one life was traded for the other. The man dropped and the mother began breathing again. Their Life forces had been switched. Nothing should have that ability other than Father Lucifer
His eyes were big and round and confused and scared while he talked.
Lucifer - Gabriel, where is the child now?
Gabriel was known as the drama queen of the family, so Lucifer had seen him shaken up
before, but this? This was different, if what Gabriel said was true there was reason to be afraid.
Reason to panic, Lucifer put his hand on his brother’s shoulders to try and comfort him into
calming down. Gabriel just looked past him, or rather through him
Gabriel - She is with her mother, brother, there’s more, she cannot see her, Luci, she’ll
never be able to see her…
Lucifer - Who cannot see whom brother? Is the baby blind? You are not making
much sense little brother. Just breathe slowly and calmly and tell me what is going
on. What happened Gabriel?
Lucifer would forgive the use of that nickname for now. He had to get Gabriel to calm down to find out what was going on.
Gabriel - The mother when she began breathing again. She lost her sight, Lucifer, her eyes are white as snow, and she cannot see her child, her newborn child. It is almost as if the child spared her from ever seeing the horror that is to become of its future…its horrible gruesome future.
Lucifer - Gabriel, go home. I will take care of things
The words felt stern and sharp leaving Lucifer’s tongue. Gabriel shook his head in
agreement before spreading his wings to take off. With one final worried look towards the house, he took off toward the skies. Only non-fallen angels could enter heaven through flight. The Fallen angels had their wings ripped from their backs as punishment. Never to be allowed to enjoy the feeling of the wind beneath their feathers again, and that was the worst
punishment of all.
Lucifer - Alright time to clean this mess up and do some damage control I suppose.
Lucifer walked into the small farmhouse, he first went to the limp and lifeless form on
the floor that he assumed must have been the father at one point. There was no soul in the body any longer. The souls usually appeared as glowing orbs of sorts after the person they were attached to stopped living, the darker the orb the more sins they had committed. However, this body did not have a soul. This was strange in itself. All humans had souls. All of them. Lucifer walked over to the mother who had the newborn infant suckling at her teat. Lucifer viewed the mother’s face, which only wore the expression of the joy of having just given birth to a human life, not knowing her husband was lying in a lifeless heap only a few feet away from where she sat. She held her child close as it drank its fill of its mother’s natural milk.
He looked at the child with wonder and amazement, had Gabriel really thought this
beautiful child, so new and fresh in the world, so fragile and small, could cause a grown man to
just drop and die, and give then, life to its mother? The child turned her head and, in an instant,
Lucifer immediately knew his life would be forever changed because of this child. This
wonderful, sinless little girl, who, with one look held his heart prisoner, enrapturing it until the
end of time. All with a single look from her emerald green eyes with the outer edges lined in violet, had captured the devils heart.
Lucifer - What is her name?
It slipped out before Lucifer could stop the words from forming upon his tongue.
Mother - Her name is Lilith
