THE PERFECT LOL part 2

1182 Words
The shortcut between the lecture buildings was unusually quiet. Tall trees lined both sides of the narrow walkway, their branches swaying as the wind grew stronger. The first drops of rain began to fall, tapping gently against the pavement. Daniel looked around. "We should hurry before the rain gets worse." Vanessa nodded but didn't move. Instead, she stood in front of him. "Daniel... there's one last thing I want to say." He sighed quietly. "If this is about us, I don't think it's necessary." "It is." She stepped closer until only a few inches separated them. "I've never stopped thinking about you." "Vanessa..." "I know you love Naomi, but people change." "My feelings won't." "You don't know that." "I do." She searched his face, hoping to find even the smallest sign of hesitation. There was none. Only honesty. Only loyalty. The very qualities she had once admired had now become the reason she hated him. "So this is really your final answer?" "Yes." "I'm sorry." Daniel frowned. "For what?" "For what happens next." Before he could ask what she meant, Vanessa suddenly grabbed the front of his shirt with both hands. Daniel instinctively pulled backward. "What are you doing?" Without warning, she tore one sleeve of her own blouse. The sound of ripping fabric echoed through the empty path. Daniel froze. His heart skipped a beat. "Vanessa!" She scratched her own arm with her fingernails until thin red lines appeared on her skin. His eyes widened in disbelief. "Stop!" Then... She screamed. A scream so loud it echoed across the buildings. "HELP!" Daniel stood completely motionless. "I said stop!" She screamed again. "PLEASE! SOMEBODY HELP ME!" Within seconds, students running to escape the rain turned toward the sound. A security guard sprinted from the nearby parking area. Several lecturers stepped outside. Vanessa fell onto the wet ground, tears streaming down her face. She pointed a trembling finger at Daniel. "He... he tried to force himself on me." Silence. For one terrible second, nobody moved. Then chaos erupted. "You monster!" Someone shoved Daniel hard against the wall. Another student punched him across the face. "I didn't touch her!" Daniel shouted. But his voice disappeared beneath the angry crowd. The security guards grabbed his arms before he could even defend himself. "I didn't do anything!" Vanessa cried even harder. "I begged him to stop..." Students surrounded her, offering jackets and comforting words. Meanwhile, Daniel was treated like a criminal. No one asked him what had happened. No one wanted to hear his side. The story had already been written. All they needed now... Was someone to blame. --- Within an hour, videos recorded by students had spread across social media. One clip showed Vanessa crying. Another showed Daniel being restrained by security. None of them showed what had happened before the screams. By sunset, hashtags flooded the internet. #JusticeForVanessa #ProtectWomen #ExpelDaniel Thousands of strangers condemned a man they had never met. Comments poured in every second. "He looks guilty." "Lock him up." "Men like him don't deserve freedom." Daniel stared at his phone in disbelief as message after message filled the screen. Friends who had laughed with him that morning suddenly blocked his number. Classmates removed him from group chats. His world was collapsing faster than he could understand. --- Later that evening, there was a knock on his apartment door. Daniel opened it slowly. Naomi stood outside. Rainwater dripped from her umbrella. Her eyes were red from crying. For several seconds, neither of them spoke. Finally she whispered, "Tell me the truth." Daniel looked directly into her eyes. "I didn't touch her." She searched his face. "You swear?" "I swear before God." "I've never lied to you." She wanted to believe him. Every memory of their relationship reminded her of the man she loved. Daniel had always respected women. He had never even shouted at her. But the videos... The accusations... The tears... They all created a storm inside her mind. "I don't know what to think." "You know me." "I thought I did." Her voice broke. "I just need time." She turned away. "Naomi..." She didn't stop. Daniel watched her disappear into the darkness. It felt as though someone had ripped his heart from his chest. --- The university suspended Daniel while an investigation was announced. News spread beyond campus. His parents received phone calls from relatives. Neighbors whispered whenever his mother walked to the market. His father stopped looking people in the eyes. One accusation had stained an entire family. Daniel barely left his apartment. He stopped eating. He stopped answering calls. Each morning he woke hoping it had all been a nightmare. Each morning reality greeted him instead. --- Across campus, Vanessa's life was moving in the opposite direction. Student organizations praised her courage. People called her a survivor. She received sympathy messages from strangers. Some even organized a peaceful march demanding justice. Every interview strengthened her reputation. Every tear earned more support. She had become exactly what she wanted the world to see— A victim. No one suspected the truth hidden behind those tears. --- Three days later, Naomi met her best friend Grace at a small café near campus. Grace listened quietly before asking one question. "Have you actually heard Daniel's side?" Naomi lowered her eyes. "He says he's innocent." "And?" "I don't know." Grace stirred her tea. "I've noticed something strange." "What?" "Vanessa has told the story three different times." Naomi frowned. "What do you mean?" "The first time she said he attacked her immediately." "The second time she said they argued first." "Yesterday she claimed he confessed his love before attacking her." Grace looked directly at Naomi. "People usually remember the truth." "They struggle to remember lies." Those words stayed in Naomi's mind long after they left the café. For the first time... Doubt shifted. Not toward Daniel. Toward Vanessa. --- That same night Daniel sat alone in the darkness of his apartment. His phone vibrated. Unknown number. He answered cautiously. "Hello?" A familiar laugh echoed through the speaker. Vanessa. "I heard Naomi left you." Daniel remained silent. "You should have chosen me." "You ruined my life." "No." Her voice became calm. "You ruined it the day you rejected me." "You'll never get away with this." "Oh really?" She laughed again. "Tell me, Daniel... who believes the accused?" He clenched his fists. "The truth always comes out." "Maybe." "But by then your reputation will already be dead." The call ended. Daniel stared at the silent phone. His hands trembled. For the first time since the accusation, he understood something terrifying. Vanessa had never wanted his love. She wanted revenge. Outside, lightning split the night sky. High above the same pathway where everything had happened, a forgotten security camera still held its silent recording. Deep inside the university's surveillance office, the footage remained untouched, waiting for someone to discover it. Neither Daniel nor Vanessa knew that the machine had witnessed every second of that evening. And hidden within those recordings... Was a truth powerful enough to destroy the greatest lie ever told.
