The compound was still half asleep when the black SUV rolled through the east gate. Snow crunched beneath the tires as the vehicle moved slowly across the courtyard toward the Blackwood manor. The early winter sun had barely begun to rise, painting the snow in pale shades of blue and gold. Most of the pack had no idea the future Alpha and his Beta had just arrived. That had been Alpha Marcus’s idea. “Figured the pack could use a surprise,” Marcus had said with a rare grin as he shut off the engine.
