"They used the plant to get rid of the bodies'' I repeated and stared at him.
"Ye-e-e-s." he saw I got it.
"They dumped some of them in the yard didn't they?"
"They had to, plant wasn't working on Sunday, but the cleaner and his troops was on duty."
"So the yard is basically a graveyard and city hall will never give us permission to renovate. We'll be stuck in excavations and paperwork and that is why you don't want to go near the project." I was heartbroken, maybe they will be rotten by now and there won't be any evidence "When was this?" I asked. The dead will have to forgive me, I couldn't risk all of my savings to get buried.
"Fresh after the war. 1919."
"You mean after the First World War, Mr X?
"Back then they used to call it just "the war". This picture" and he pointed at the foster men "Was taken a decade before the war, the boys were still so young and happy."
"You sound like you were there." to that he laughed and he took the photograph off the wall. Behind it there was the same dark green tapestry that engulfed the whole office, but he used his nail to lift the paper to reveal behind it a tiny safe. What now? He opened it with his finger print and took something from there.
He used the table lamp to show me what looked like a circular smart phone.
"Take it, Ms Shay" and he looked at me wide eyed. What is this? What is he expecting to happen? I took the object and it was surprisingly heavy, definitely unpractical for a cell phone. On it's both sides it had a dark glass, almost like a mirror.
"What is this Mr X?"
"This is a TTT, Ms Shay. I helps navigate though the most expensive commodity in the world."
"Do you mean water? Is this a compass?"
"You could say that....Use it Ms Shay."
"Mr X, I have no idea what to do with this, I can clearly see it's precious to you, so I would feel safer giving it back." I tried to give it to him, but instead he pushed the TTT in my hands.
"Use it!" What the hell?!
"Sir, I have no idea how this works!" I was starting to lose my cool. I just realized we've lost a ton of money, I didn't need to tolerate this s**t any more.
-"Maybe he's just messing with you. Go home and google this Foster gang."
"Do you know how a television set works, Ms Shay?"
"Well..." I trailed off, it's a bunch of cables and electricity and how the hell is this relevant to anything?
"You don't know how it works and yet you still know how to use it. Use the TTT Ms Shay, make it work. I know you can. I've seen you do it."
-"That's enough!"
"Sir, my husband will be looking for me." I put the TTT on his desk, grabbed my clutch and ran outside, slamming hard into an Asian guy who was right outside the door. I knocked him over and walked hurriedly away while yelling an apology, then I looked back at him and our eyes met. Was he eavesdropping on the weirdest conversation of all time? He looked scared as he got inside the office. I was almost at the stairs when I remembered.
-"f**k! We forgot the phone!"
I ran back, knocked hurriedly and entered. Where were they? I walked over to the desk to take my phone and then I saw Mr X sitting on top of the poor Asian guy. He was chocking him! How is such a small frail man supposed to do that? It's illogical.
"You said she can make it work! You lied to me!" Mr X was hissing angrily.
I had to do something.
"-Run! He hasn't seen you!"
Too late. He was staring right at me as if he heard my thoughts again. His face was more than explicit- I was next.
-"Hit him, Olivia!"
I saw him launch at me. How is such an old man move so fast? This made no logical sense, like dry water. I lifted the TTT with the full intention to smack him on the head, but then something weird happened, I was paralyzed in a statue of liberty pose, everything else stopped moving. The TTT was really hot in my hand and a strong light came out of it that illuminated the whole space and then I was sucked in every thing became dark and then suddenly bright. The vertigo made me lose my balance. As I was falling I realized I was in a forest and then I hit my head on a rock.
