You know that voice at the back of your head, that tells you to shut up right before you say something really dense and yet you still ignore it? Made enough mistakes in life to dare disregard it. In fact, in times of distress or loneliness I seek conversation with it. Most people call it instinct or intuition. Freud called it the "antithesis between conscious and unconscious". I call it the Donbe voice, short for "Don't be stupid", although I think Sigmund was onto something, because I am deeply asleep, yet I can hear Donbe screaming- "WAKE UP!".
I woke up in what seemed to be a thick forest. Where the hell am I?! How did I get here?
-Olivia, look around, assess the situation. Are you harmed?
I dutifully obeyed and looked down at my maxi silver dress. The party! I was at a party with my husband Charles. My shoes are clean. So definitely did not walk here on my own, someone else brought me. My hairdo is intact, my jewelry in place, there were no bruises on me except for a lump and dried blood on the back of my head. All considered I felt fine.
-"You might have a concussion. It's a minor traumatic brain injury. Take it serously. Explains the memory loss and confusion. In fact, you'll probably throw up soon."
I looked around. No road nearby, no sign of car tracks, no sound of traffic. So how did they get me here?
-"And why would they do that in the first place, you're a murder witness! Makes no sense for them to dump you in a forest and let you live."
Maybe I'm gonna get eaten by a pack wolves and they'll paint it as an accident?...
-"Shit."
I'm gonna be eaten alive!
-Well, maybe it won't be a full pack, maybe you'll get a mini wolf, that's on a diet.
No visible cameras. No drones or planes. The f*****g forest bird chirping is starting to get on my nerves. This is way too eerie and it's messing with my head. Last time I was alone in a forest was in seventh grade camp and the only reason I went in the first place, was because the toilets were disgusting. I think that I'm all alone here. Oh God, I am f****d!
-"Relax, Olivia! You're panicking. Take deep breaths. Stay calm."
Speaking of toilets, I desperately needed to relieve myself.
-"Well, go for it. Napkins are in the clutch."
My stuff! Where's my bag?
-"Look around in the bushes. Try not to become a meal for a family of ticks."
Didn't need to look far. Found my shiny black mother of pearl clutch next to the rock that hit my head when I fell. Right! That's how I got the concussion. My gun was right next to it... Still loaded, I put the safety on and continued looking and there it was! That weird dark blue tablet.
-That's how you got here! It was this blue tabletty thing! Oh, that lunatic Mr. X is gonna be mad! He called it "TTT".
Yeah, I continued my thought process, he said it was priceless and that it's the key to the most precious commodity in the world. Whatever that means. The events from the party were starting to get back to me. I had witnessed Mr X smash the brains out of that poor bastard in his office.
-Charles! The kids!
Relax! We said no panicking. Charles didn't witness the murder. He's just a regular party guest who can't find his wife. He should be safe...I hope...After all, I have the TTT, Mr X wants it badly. He won't harm Charles until he gets it back...
-Olivia, your family is in danger. Get out of here and find the police. Focus and get moving. Remember your navigation lessons. Go downhill. Find a body of water. Use natural landmarks to make sure you're not going in circles. Find help!
