Nyx’s Pov
I sighed as I entered the room—my room now, apparently. It still didn’t feel like mine. The walls were soft beige, pristine floors, and the bed looked so well furnished, I wanted to sniff it. He must have prepared a lot for me before he brought me here.
I glanced around and saw the different shades of whoever could have lived in the room. His mistresses? The maids did mention he sent out all the mistresses because of me.
I didn't know what Caspian was up to but I knew he just needed a cure for something important, that I was yet to know and close to find out.
I sat down on the edge of the bed then a soft knock sounded on the door.
I hesitated.
“Come in?” I finally said after the third knock, unsure if I was even allowed to speak freely in here. I had to measure my steps no matter the freedom Caspian was willingly to offer.
Two maids stepped in, their heads bowed.
“Milady,” one said gently. “What would you like for breakfast?”
Breakfast?
I blinked at them, confused. In the Crescent Moon Pack, I had always been the one preparing breakfast for Zade every time he needed to eat or demanded it. Zade used to say it was a “form of love and it only brings us together”
If it was indeed a form of love then why did he leave me for my sister?
“No, I'm fine.” I replied. I hadn’t lifted a finger and they were asking me what I wanted.
Their expression was unreadable and I almost thought they weren't going to leave as they stood still, ignoring my refusal to eat.
I chuckled nervously, “You really don’t have to trouble yourselves. I’ll be fine.”
They looked at each other, curtsied and left without another word. There was no argument except suspicious glances and silence.
I smiled as I watched them leave, barely started to process that when another knock came and firmer this time. The door opened and in came a tall man with a calm expression and a sharp uniform.
Several girls followed behind him, pushing in a table and chair that matched the room’s interior perfectly.
My eyes widened in surprise as they laid down plates with pastries, sandwiches, omelets, fresh fruit, different kinds of tea and juices, and even… was that honeyed toast?
“What is all this?” I asked, standing up.
The man bowed slightly. “I’m Edmund, Milady. I'm the Alpha's butler. The Alpha instructed us to give you whatever you desire. Since you didn’t request anything, we took the liberty to prepare a variety of options that may suit your taste.” He gestured toward the center of the table. “And, of course, the Alpha said to include a vase of Charm flowers. He said you seemed to like them.”
I stared at the delicate pink blooms nestled in the glass vase, the petals still glistening with dew. Charm flowers… The ones I said helped with sadness.
Why was he acting so soft? Was he doing all this intentionally or he's just—
“We'd leave you to it then, Milady.” Edmund said and tried to leave.
“Wait,” I said slowly. “If I just pick one meal, you’ll pack up the rest?”
“Yes, Milady. Anything you wish, but you can take as much as you want and we'll pack the rest,” he replied.
My stomach was already betraying me, growling softly.
“Then I’ll have a sandwich. And water. The rest can be cleared away, leave the flowers too,” I ordered. It felt strange as the words fell from my lips… I was used to beung the one taking the order notnthe one dishing it out.
He nodded once, then dismissed the other maids with a simple hand gesture. They cleared everything else away in silence, careful not to spill a single drop.
I watched them leave one after the other, gracefully chewing the sandwich and hoping I wasn't getting into a trap.
I managed to sit down at the table, still overwhelmed, still trying to figure out what was real.
Maybe I deserve a good life, but how would I know it wasn't a trap when my ex lover betrayed me and pretended to care about me. I didn’t even know what this was, but I just couldn't trust Caspian yet, I just needed to find him the cure.
After finishing half of the sandwich, I walked to the wardrobe. The doors opened smoothly, revealing rows of clothes and soft fabrics.
They had deep tones and subtle embroidery. Dresses that didn’t scream wealth, but whispered it with quiet elegance. Typical for an Alpha that doesn't mingle with the whole packs in the town.
Everything here was strange. I glanced around again, taking in the size of the room. Smaller than Caspian’s, of course, but still big enough to make me feel… important.
Was this kindness?
Pity?
A strategy?
Everything seemed too good to be true.
And then, my thoughts wandered dangerously back to Caspian.
The first time I met him, he looked like death itself… like he was the grim reaper. His eyes were sharp enough to slice me open. I feared him. I still did but he didn't try to hurt me.
Even if he did try to force me and treated me like I was something that's broken and needed to be fixed.
Explained why he was feeding me, clothing me, giving me enough freedom to feel like me again.
Was I really going to fall for another man’s tricks again? Maybe he meant good.
I shook my head. This wasn’t about love. Caspian needed something from me. That was all. This kindness, it was bait. And the cure… What did he even mean by that? What was wrong with him?
I needed someone to tell me what has been going on with him, else I wouldn't know what kind of cure to find.
And who could possibly tell me? Edmund? The maids?
Certainly the maids…there surely should be one that likes to chat, I should.make friends with one or better still ask Caspian for her to be my assistant.
“Everything would be back in place” I thought to myself as I ooked at the charm flowers again and exhaled slowly.
If I wanted to get Liam back, I needed to play by Caspian’s games… but certainly not by his rules!
