Chapter 8

896 Words
Caspian's Pov Every time I try to hold back, I remember it. Her face, her smile, her words and the way her legs swiftly moved as she ran away right in front of me—from those demons that couldn't live peacefully with their kind. Nyx was showing the same signs Veyra did. But Veyra wasn't from the Darkvale pack, I only knew her name and the fact that she was on the run with some people. But Nyx? I was having Nyx find me a cure, I had no doubt she would be similar to Veyra, maybe she's not. Still, twenty years ago still feels so close. The way her words felt so strong, yet soft. It always calmed my heart but hurt me more to see her suffer. I stood back for years watching her get hurt by the monster she married, but I had brought her back to my arms and nothing would make me change my mind. The crescent moon pack is totally small compared to the Red moon pack, our differences were far from each other. I would have claimed Nyx since she was 20 but she was betrothed to Zade already, getting her from him wasn't trouble at all, ruining her happiness was. If stalking was love, I'd do it over again to protect her. Secretly, of course. If she found out I knew so much about her already, she might back out. So I did the right thing and kept it to myself. All of that kept me on my toes until that day, those bastards made her cry and I'll make them pay. Karl kept staring at me, he probably thought I had lost myself after the man sitting in front of us gave the news. “I don't think it would be easy for her, Alpha Caspian. Your father didn't get the chance to leave anything behind apart from those books. If she doesn't get it done soon, you'll lose the chance to mate her and the chance to have your wolf back.” The wise man said, and then I stared into oblivion. “What do we do now?” Karl asked, while I had my arms crossed. “I don't know. I'm only here for consultation, and until—” “She'll find it.” I cut in. “I'm sure she will. I've watched her for years and I'm certain she will do better than we expect. I just need to give her freedom to trust me.” “If you say so, Alpha Caspian. That woman may look solid on the outside, but she's still a broken mother and wife.” I glared at him and turned away, my feet led to the door. “Until next time. And when I do come back here, you'll have more credits to give than bad remarks.” Karl followed behind, quiet and still. His lips kept moving inconsistently like he was about to utter something. “Go ahead, Karl. What do you have to say?” I asked, as he opened the car door. “I don't…really.” He coughed. “I don't think I do. I just think—” “You do have something to say. Why? Do you also think Nyx wouldn't be able to do it?” “Not that, Alpha. I was there when your father was killed. And Darkvale pack members, I mean… if any of them are alive, they would make sure you're killed too. Isn't that why you watched her for years? To see if she was one of them? And if she isn't from the Darkvale pack, she definitely wouldn't be able to find you a cure.” I sighed, “I'm not getting my hopes up, Karl. Nyx wants something from me which she can't get anywhere. And if she wants that, she has to find me a cure. I'm sure by now she has found out the cure is for my dormant wolf.” “Maybe you're right. Let's see how it goes then. And if it all doesn't work out?” “Are you saying it’s not gonna work out, Karl?” “Definitely not, Alpha.” “Then just drive, she must be waiting. I'll make sure to watch her as I've always done.” Karl might be fifty percent correct Nyx wouldn't find it, but then she was adopted. There was no way she had the crescent moon blood in her. I just had to follow my instincts as I had been doing for the past twelve years. The drive home wasn't as loud as it was when the towns were awake, it was sundown already and the moon was out. Edmund ran towards me, his hands clutching the tray of eggs in his hands. “Speak.” I ordered. “My lord…she's…she's…” “I just asked you to speak, Edmund!” “I'm so sorry I really didn't know she was allergic to—” I pushed him off and ran to Nyx's room. She was laying there, her eyes reddened. “Nyx! Nyx!” I called out, raising her head to rest on my lap. “It was grains…” She struggled, rubbing her hands on her sto mach. “Get a f*****g doctor, Karl!” I yelled, lifting her up and carefully placing her in the car.
