As the detective led Liam away in handcuffs, I felt a mix of emotions: relief, fear, and uncertainty.
Maxwell's protective gaze never wavered, and I knew I couldn't face this alone anymore. Detective James turned to me, his expression softening.
"Aria, you need to come with me to the station to file a report and get a restraining order." I nodded, still shaken.
Maxwell stepped forward. "I'll take care of her, Detective.
She can stay with me at my place." I opened my mouth to protest, but Maxwell's firm tone brooked no argument.
"It's not safe for her to be alone right now." Detective James nodded in agreement. "Alright, but I'll need to come by tomorrow to take her statement." I felt a pang of reluctance as Maxwell led me to his car.
His mansion was the last place I wanted to go, but I had no other choice. As we drove through the gates, I couldn't help but feel trapped. Maxwell's mansion loomed before us, its grandeur and beauty a stark contrast to the fear and uncertainty that gripped my heart.
He helped me out of the car and led me inside, his arm around my shoulders.
"You'll be safe here, Aria. I promise." I nodded, trying to push aside my reservations.
The opulent interior and lavish furnishings only made me feel more out of place. Maxwell showed me to a luxurious guest room, and I couldn't help but wonder how I'd ended up here.
As I settled in, Maxwell brought me a warm bathrobe and a cup of tea. "You need to rest," he said, his eyes filled with concern.
I nodded, feeling a lump form in my throat.
"Thank you, Maxwell. For everything."
He smiled and tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. "You're safe now, Aria. I won't let anyone hurt you." As I drifted off to sleep, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was walking into a trap.
The next morning, Detective James arrived to take my statement. Maxwell sat with me, his presence a comforting reminder that I wasn't alone. As I recounted the events leading up to Liam's arrest, I felt a sense of closure, but also a nagging fear that this wasn't over yet.
After the detective left, Maxwell turned to me. "You need to stay here for a while, Aria. Until we're sure Liam can't hurt you again." I hesitated, unsure if I was ready to accept his offer. But as I looked into his eyes, I saw only kindness and concern.
"Okay," I said finally. "Thank you, Maxwell." He smiled and pulled me into a warm hug. "You're welcome, Aria. You're safe now." As the days passed, I settled into a routine at Maxwell's mansion. He was always there, watching over me, making sure I felt safe. But despite his efforts, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was living on borrowed time.
And then, one night, as I was drifting off to sleep, my phone buzzed with an unknown number.
My heart raced as I read the message: "You think you can hide from me, Aria? I'll always find you." My blood ran cold as I realized Liam had somehow managed to contact me from jail. I felt a chill run down my spine.
I was not safe, not even in Maxwell's mansion. And as I lay there, frozen with fear, I knew I had to confront the reality that my nightmare was far from over.
I couldn't sleep that night, my mind racing with thoughts of Liam and his ominous message. How did he manage to contact me from jail? And what did he mean by "I'll always find you"? I felt a sense of dread wash over me, and I knew I had to tell Maxwell about the message.
I found him in his study, working on his laptop. He looked up as I entered, concern etched on his face. "Aria, what's wrong?"
I showed him my phone, my hand trembling. "Liam sent me this message. He's still stalking me, even from jail."
Maxwell's expression darkened. "That's not possible. He's supposed to be in custody."
"I don't know how he did it, but I know I'm not safe," I said, my voice barely above a whisper.
Maxwell stood up and wrapped his arms around me. "You are safe, Aria. I promise. I'll increase security measures around the mansion, and we'll get to the bottom of this."
As I looked into his eyes, I saw a flicker of doubt. And I knew that even Maxwell, with all his resources and protection, couldn't guarantee my safety.
-------------------
The next few days passed in a blur of anxiety and fear. Maxwell kept me close, never leaving my side, but I couldn't shake the feeling that Liam was watching me, waiting for his chance to strike.
And then, one evening, as we were walking in the gardens, I saw him. Liam. Standing across the lawn, his eyes fixed on me with a sinister grin.
My heart stopped. I tried to scream, but my voice was frozen in my throat.
Maxwell saw him too, and in an instant, he pushed me behind him and charged at Liam.
But Liam was gone, vanished into thin air.
Maxwell turned to me, his face pale. "Aria, are you okay?"
I nodded, still in shock.
"We need to get you out of here," Maxwell said, his voice firm. "Now."
And with that, he swept me up in his arms and carried me back to the mansion, leaving me with more questions than answers.
What did Liam want from me? And how far would he go to get it?
I knew one thing for sure: I was trapped in a nightmare from which I couldn't wake up. And Maxwell, despite his best efforts, might not be able to save me after all.
Maxwell carried me to my room, his arms wrapped tightly around me. He set me down on the bed and sat beside me, his eyes scanning my face. "Aria, you need to tell me what's going on. What did Liam want from you?"
I shook my head, trying to clear the cobwebs. "I don't know, Maxwell. He just showed up, grinning at me like he knew a secret."
Maxwell's jaw clenched. "I'll increase security around the mansion. No one will get past us again."
But I knew it wasn't that simple. Liam had a way of getting what he wanted, no matter what obstacles stood in his way.
As the night wore on, Maxwell stayed by my side, his presence a comforting reminder that I wasn't alone. But even with him there, I couldn't shake the feeling that Liam was watching me, waiting for his next move.
The next morning, Maxwell took me to his private office, a secure room deep in the mansion. He sat me down in front of a computer and pulled up a video feed. "This is the security footage from last night," he said, his eyes fixed on the screen.
I watched as Liam appeared on camera, his eyes fixed on me with an unnerving intensity. He didn't move or speak, just kept staring at me with a sinister grin.
Maxwell fast-forwarded the footage, and we saw Liam disappear into thin air.
"What the...?" I breathed.
Maxwell's face was grim. "I don't know how he did it, Aria. But I promise you, we'll get to the bottom of this."
But as we delved deeper into the mystery, I realized that Liam's disappearance was just the tip of the iceberg. Something far more sinister was at play, and I was caught in the middle.
And that's when I saw it. A message on the computer screen, from an unknown sender.
"Aria, you'll never escape me."
My blood ran cold. Liam was still out there, watching me, waiting for his next move.
And I knew that no matter what Maxwell did, I was never going to be safe again.
Maxwell's eyes narrowed as he read the message. "This is not possible," he muttered. "We have the best security systems in the world. No one can breach them."
But I knew that Liam was not just anyone. He was a master of manipulation, a chameleon who could blend into the shadows and strike when least expected.
"We need to get out of here," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "Now."
Maxwell nodded, his face set in a determined expression. "We'll go to my private villa in the Mediterranean. No one will find us there."
But as we made our way to the airport, I couldn't shake the feeling that we were being watched. Liam was out there, waiting for his moment to strike.
As we boarded the plane, I felt a sense of relief wash over me. We were finally safe.
But as the plane took off, I saw a figure standing on the runway, watching us leave.
Liam.
My heart stopped. How did he...?
Maxwell followed my gaze and his eyes narrowed. "We'll be okay, Aria. I promise."
But I knew that promise was empty. Liam was always one step ahead of us.
And as the plane soared into the sky, I knew that our nightmare was far from over.
