TRAPPED.....

1253 Words
Aria I thought I'd finally found solace in Maxwell's arms, but now I'm pushing him away, afraid of what my ex might do. I can't sleep, my mind racing with worst-case scenarios. I see my ex's face everywhere, his menacing grin haunting me. The other night, I had woken up to find my window open, the curtains billowing in the wind. I know I closed it before bed. My heart raced as I realized he's been in my room, watching me sleep. I call Maxwell, my voice shaking. "Please come over," I whisper sob. "I need you." He arrives within minutes, his eyes scanning my room for any signs of danger. I show him the open window, and he pulls me into a tight embrace. "I'm not leaving your side," he whispers. "We'll get through this together." “ Ria dear, you'll have to come with me please, it's dangerous being in your apartment” he whispered softly. Nooo, I wasn't ready to fall into another trap. I was in dire need but accepting this offer? I won't. “ No Max, I can't “ “ Why?” He quizzed, worries etched over his handsome face. I know I can't put him in harm's way. I push him away, tears streaming down my face. "Leave me alone, Maxwell. Please. He'll hurt you too." Maxwell's face sets in defiance . "I won't leave you, Aria. We'll face this together." I moved to the living room and opened the front door, “ Out!!, I know I invited you in but it's high time you left.” I said my lips pursed in a thin line. “ You do not mean this Ria” he said moving closer to me. “ It's Aria, and yes I mean every god-damned thing I say right now, Get out!!” He shook his head. “ You leave me with two options, I'll hurt you or I'll call the cops on you” I said, my hands gripping the door handle tightly. He gave a silent chuckle and moved even closer to me. I used that opportunity to push him away, shutting the door behind him, I fell on the floor sobbing and ignoring the loud bang on my door. I feel very bad but I had to do this. —----------------------------------- Days flew by rather quickly as I withdrew from the world, afraid to leave my house, afraid to face my ex's wrath. I'd taken four weeks off after Sir Donaldson refused to let me resign. Maxwell tries to reach me, but I ignore his calls, his texts, his visits. I'm trapped in a prison of fear, and I don't know how to escape. This afternoon, I heard a knock on the door. I freeze, my heart racing. I know it was not Maxwell; he'd never knock so softly especially after I had ignored him for days now. I creep to the door, my hand trembling as I reach for the handle. I open it to find a bouquet of flowers on the porch, with a note attached. "I'll always love you, Aria." My ex's handwriting is unmistakable. I slam the door shut, my mind reeling. He's been here, on my porch, watching me. I feel sick, my stomach churning with fear. I can't take it anymore. I need help. I need someone to protect me from this monster. I pick up my phone and dial a number I've been avoiding. It's time to face my fears, time to take back control. "Detective James," a deep voice answers. "Detective, it's Aria. I need your help." "Aria, what's going on?" Detective James asks, his voice firm but gentle. I take a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heart. "It's my ex, Detective. He's been stalking me, sending me creepy messages and showing up at my house. I'm scared." He listens attentively as I tell him about the creepy messages, the flowers, and the notes. The silence grows grimmer with each passing moment. "Aria, we'll get a restraining order against him," he says. "And I'll make sure he knows that if he comes near you again, he'll be facing serious consequences.” There's a pause on the other end of the line before he added,"I'll be right there, Aria. Stay safe." I nod wearily "Thank you, Detective." As I paced my tiny living room worried, waiting for James, I was in serious thoughts, as I know that I can't trust anyone to keep me safe... except maybe Maxwell. I didn't want to second guess this decision. I take a deep breath and dial Maxwell's number, my heart racing with anticipation. It rings twice before he answers. "Aria? Oh my god, I've been so worried about you!" I feel a lump form in my throat at the concern in his voice. "Maxwell, I need your help." "Anything, Aria. What's going on?" I hesitate, unsure how much to reveal. But something about Maxwell's gentle tone puts me at ease. "My ex is stalking me," I whisper. "He's been sending me creepy messages and watching my every move. I'm scared, Maxwell." There's a pause on the other end of the line. "I'll be right there," he says finally. "We'll get through this together, Aria." I nodded even if he couldn't see me. I continued pacing back and forth in my living room, my eyes darting to the windows, expecting to see my ex's face lurking in the shadows while I was waiting for either the detective or Maxwell. The doorbell rings, it's Maxwell, his tall frame and kind eyes a welcome relief. He moved swiftly into the living room and pulled me into a warm hug that communicated more than I could ever say. I feel a sense of determination that I haven't felt in months. I just hoped. “ I see detective James isn't here yet,” he said after a while, leading me to the tiny couch. “Ye…” I cleared my throat,” he'll be here any moment from now. Ding dong The doorbell rang as if in cue, I hurried to get to the door. I froze . My ex is standing on the porch, a menacing grin spreading across his face. "Aria, darling," he says. "I've been waiting for you pumpkin!”. “Li…Liam?” I fidgeted. “ Yes it is Liam, your only lover, in flesh and blood….. Did you miss me pumpkin?” He asked. My heart races as Liam takes a step closer, his eyes fixed on me with an unnerving intensity. Maxwell moves instinctively to stand in front of me, his eyes locked on my ex in a protective gaze. "Leave her alone," Maxwell growls, his voice low and menacing. Liam sneers. "Or what? You'll try to stop me? You think you can protect her from me?" Maxwell doesn't flinch. "I'll do whatever it takes to keep her safe." Liam laughs, a cold, mirthless sound. "You have no idea what you're up against," he says, his eyes glinting with a sinister light. Suddenly, Detective James appears at the door, his gun drawn. "That's enough," he says, his voice firm. "You're under arrest for stalking and harassment." Liam's face contorted with rage as the detective handcuffs him and reads him his rights. He didn't try to struggle, he just had a surrenderous look on his face. I let out a loud sob.. I'm too young for all this drama. For some reason, I didn't feel any sense of relief as he was being whisked away.
