Narrow Escape

Aria As the plane flew over the Mediterranean, I couldn't shake the feeling of unease. Liam had seemed so confident, so sure that he would catch up with us. And now, as I looked out at the endless expanse of water below, I wondered if we had made a terrible mistake. "Aria, what's wrong?" Maxwell asked, noticing my concern. "I just have a bad feeling," I replied, trying to shake it off. "We'll be safe at the villa," Maxwell reassured me. I knew that Liam was a master of manipulation, that he would stop at nothing to get what he wanted. "Aria, trust me," Maxwell said, holding my hand. "We'll be okay." I nodded,” I'm so sorry I had to put you through this,” I whispered. As we sat down to dinner that night, I saw him. Liam. Standing on the terrace, his eyes fixed on me with a sinister grin. "My God," Maxwell breathed, his face darkening. "Get inside, Aria. Now." I was frozen in place, unable to move. Liam took a step closer, his eyes never leaving mine. And then, everything went black. I woke up to see that I was lying on a bed in a dark room. Maxwell was beside me, his eyes filled with concern. "Aria, are you okay?" he whispered. "I...I think so," I stammered, trying to sit up. "Don't try to move," Maxwell said, holding me back. "You're safe now." Was I? I knew that Liam was still out there, watching us, waiting for his next move. As we drove away from the villa, Maxwell's phone rang nonstop. He ignored it, his eyes fixed on the road. "Who is it?" I asked, curiosity getting the better of me. "Liam," Maxwell growled. "He's trying to taunt me, to get me to reveal our location." I shivered at the thought of Liam's sinister grin, his eyes fixed on me with an unnerving intensity. As we landed on the island and made our way to the villa, I couldn't help but feel like we were walking into a trap. The villa was beautiful, surrounded by high walls and guarded by men with stern faces. But I knew that Liam was a chameleon, that he could blend in anywhere. "Welcome to our new home," Maxwell said, his eyes locked on mine with a warm smile. I found my lips curling upwards on its own accord. That hurts, my lips were cracked. "It's...it's nice," I stammered, trying to hide my unease. "We'll be safe here," he reassured me. "I promise." We settled in for the night, I just couldn't shake the feeling that we were being watched, that Liam was waiting for his next move. Cunny son of a b***h! "Aria, try to get some rest," Maxwell said, holding me close. I knew that I wouldn't be able to sleep, not with Liam still out there, watching us, waiting for his next move. The next morning, Maxwell was already up and about, making coffee in the kitchen. "Good morning," he said, smiling at me. "How are you feeling today?" "A little better," I replied, trying to smile back. But the truth was, I was still scared. Liam was still out there, and I knew that he wouldn't stop until he found us. "Aria, we need to talk," Maxwell said, his face serious. "What is it?" I asked, my heart racing. "Liam's men have been spotted in the area," Maxwell said, his eyes locked on mine. "We need to be careful." My heart skipped a beat as I realized that Liam was closing in on us, and he wasn't even alone. I'm so f****d! "What do we do?" I asked, feeling a sense of panic. "We'll be okay," Maxwell reassured me. "We just need to stay vigilant." “ How about I turn myself in?” I whispered. At Least he won't be dragged into this mess. “Don't you dare try that! We're many steps ahead of them” he growled. His face looked dead serious, something I hadn't seen before. —-------------------------------- Just as we were settling in for the night, we heard a noise outside. "What was that?" I asked, my heart racing. "I don't know," Maxwell replied, his eyes fixed on the window. My heart stopped. How did he...? Maxwell saw him too, and his face darkened. "Get inside, Aria," he growled. "Now." But I was frozen in place, unable to move. Liam took a step closer, his eyes never leaving mine. And then, everything went black. I was lying on a bed in a dark room. I tried to sit up, but a sharp pain shot through my head and I fell back onto the pillow. "Aria, don't try to move," Maxwell's voice whispered in my ear. "You're safe now." I turned my head, trying to see him, but the room was too dark. "Where are we?" I whispered back. "In a safe place," Maxwell replied. "Liam's men were at the villa. We had to get out quickly." I tried to remember what had happened, but my mind was foggy. "What about Liam?" I asked, my voice shaking. Maxwell's hand tightened around mine. "We'll deal with him later. Right now, we need to get you out of here." The light turned on and I saw Maxwell's face above me, his eyes filled with concern. He had bruises on his face. Did they get into a fight? "We have to go," he said, pulling me up from the bed. "Now." As we stumbled out of the room, I saw Liam standing in the doorway, his eyes fixed on me with a sinister grin. "You'll never escape me," he sneered. And with that, everything went black again. When I came to realization, I was in a car, speeding down a winding road. Maxwell was driving, his eyes fixed on the road ahead. "Where are we going?" I asked, my voice still shaky. "A safe place," Maxwell replied, his jaw clenched. "We need to get as far away from Liam as possible." I nodded, still trying to process what had happened. Liam's men had attacked us at the villa, and we had barely escaped with our lives. As we drove, I noticed that Maxwell's phone was ringing nonstop. He ignored it, his eyes fixed on the road. "Who is it?" I asked, curiosity getting the better of me. "Liam," Maxwell growled. "He's trying to taunt me, to get me to reveal our location." He turned the phone off and accelerated. I shut my eyes and all I could see was Liam's sinister grin, his eyes fixed on me with an unnerving intensity. We drove for hours, the sun setting over the horizon. As we veered off the main road, the tires crunched on the dirt track, and the trees seemed to close in around us like sentinels. The sun's descent cast long shadows, making the woods appear to stretch and twist in the fading light. My heart raced with every mile, the isolation suffocating me like I was trapped. Wasn't I? Finally, we burst through the treeline, and the cabin came into view. It was a small, weathered thing, surrounded by a fence that seemed to loom over us, its barbed wire glinting like a menacing smile. The air grew heavier, weighted with an unsettling silence. I felt a shiver run down my spine as Maxwell killed the engine, the dust forming a cloud behind us. Something about this place felt off, in a good way though, like we were trespassing on a secret that didn't want to be uncovered. As we emerged from the trees, I saw a small cabin in front of us, surrounded by a high fence and barbed wire. "Welcome to our new home," Maxwell said, with a triumphant tone. “ How on earth did you know a place like this?” I questioned, amazed. “ You could call me a country boy” he said, with a proud grin. I laughed, a strange sound. It dawned on me I hadn't done that for days, weeks even. Maybe, this was a fresh start!
