Selena's perspective:
"Of course."
Cedric smiled at me, arms crossed. "Anything else you want to argue about?"
"Don't be like that, Cedric," I protested weakly, Daisy's warning echoing in my mind. Her latest picture of my father made it clear—she wouldn't tolerate my relationship with Cedric any longer. For my father's safety, I had to keep this secret.
'I'm sorry, Cedric. I can't lose my only family,' I said inwardly.
"I didn't mean what I said last night. I was just sick, I'm so sorry," I said sincerely, lowering my head. "I don't know what got into me, but…" My voice trailed off.
I knew I lied to the man I love.
But I had to protect my father.
"Selena, I wasn't confused," he replied, taking my hand. "I'm sure I love you. Can you accept my love?"
I quickly pulled my hand away.
