“You can tell me anything, Ines.”
There was a look in her eyes, but for so brief a moment Mason wasn’t sure what it was. Sadness? Uncertainty? Regret?
When she didn’t reply, he held her chin gently with his thumb and forefinger. “Hey,” he said. “Talk to me?”
Ines’s eyelashes fluttered up at the touch of his fingers.
He held his breath. Would she come clean and tell him the truth? Did he even want the truth? A part of him wished he had been mistaken all this time.
