I enjoyed the few days away from the pack. The quiet, the freedom—it reminded me why I was Alpha in the first place.
When I returned, Carrie suddenly couldn’t stay far enough away from me.
It was almost funny.
Not long ago, she’d been desperate for me to dump Angela so she could take her place as Luna—and as top warrior. Now? Now she avoided me like I was a disease. But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t completely escape me.
She was still the acting Luna of this pack.
People still believed she held that title, and because of that, they still respected her. One word from me could turn that respect into hatred—but I wasn’t ready to pull that trigger yet. Not yet.
I sent her a message.
“Carrie, come to my office. We need to talk about the challenge.”
