Chapter 31
Rose - Macey Mom's POV
I was standing there watching my daughter battle one of her friends. She was doing amazing, and I was proud of her. But I was also watching Roger; he was eyeing her, not liking what he was seeing. He wanted to see her weak, but she wasn't weak at all. She was much stronger than the rest of the group. I knew her wolf was there. I also knew she had shifted at a very young age. When I felt her shift, I ran to her, trying to help her, but it was too late. She had already shifted back. I didn't get to see her wolf. I hid, watching her walk back home. I wasn't upset with her because she shifted early; strong wolves shift early, even alpha pups. But I wasn't sure if she was an alpha pup. I needed to tell her about her father. I waited at the warrior cabin for her. I saw the look on her face, and I couldn't help but smile. I don't know why she always thinks she's in trouble. I hope she doesn't hate me when I tell her this. When she came up to me,
"Hey, you're not in trouble, honey. I just need to talk to you. Go get a shower; I'll be waiting for you." Parents were not allowed in the recruit cabin. If this were the warrior cabin, I would be allowed to walk inside. We were only allowed in there if the alpha wanted us there because someone was in trouble or hurt and needed us. Twenty minutes later, she was outside with me in a hoodie and sweatpants - her comfy clothes that she likes to wear for some reason.
"Come on, I know you have some time before you need to rest for tomorrow. I need to talk with you about something away from this place, away from everyone." She nodded, sticking her hands in her hoodie pockets. We walked into the woods, heading to the fishing bank where teenagers sometimes have bonfires, swim, or make up. Yeah, we knew about the making out, as long as it didn't go any further. We sat on a fallen log, and then I sighed.
"Mom, I know you have something to tell me. So just tell me. Whatever it is, I'm here to listen." Kissing my daughter's cheek, I began to tell her a story from when I was younger. I was tired of being alone, sick of everyone having a mate while I hadn't found mine. So I went to a pub to drink my sorrows away. I met a man; not the one she thinks it is. When we were too drunk to drive, we rented a room for the night. Things happened. He was my first. The next morning, I hurried to get dressed and left without saying anything. Two weeks later, I met Roger, and a week after, I found out I was pregnant. He knew he wasn't the father but promised to treat you as his own. Things happened, and we rejected each other. We are no longer mates, but I let him stay so you could have a dad there. When things got tough, I had to put him in his place. He doesn't know I'm telling you any of this, but you had to know. I'm not sure if that man ever looked for me or has looked for me. I wish he would so he could get to know you. I see him in your eyes; I remember his eye color, dark green, and you have his eyes. You probably have his fighting skills as well. You do very well because I know you didn't get those skills from me. The way my daughter looked at me, I won't forget. She got up from the tree trunk, turned to walk away, but she just couldn't. She tried but she couldn't. I wasn't stopping her; trust me, I wasn't. This was her own free will. She took a few steps away from me, then looked away. I don't think she knew what she wanted to do. But then, she ran at me, throwing her arms around my neck. She began to cry.
Putting my arms around her, I was trying my best to soothe her. When she looked up at me, she cleaned her face from the tears she had shed.
“I don't know why you are trying to soothe me when you are the one who has been going through this alone, Mama. That man who lives with us was never your mate. He used a cloaking device to spy on him to make you think he was your mate. That's what my wolf had just told me. The Moon Goddess has sent her to me. It's the reason why I shifted so early. I wasn’t allowed to tell anyone, but she also said she knew you were there, but you arrived too late. Hold on, she's coming forward so she can explain to you, and I don't have to keep telling you,” she closed her eyes, then she opened them once again. When she did this, her eyes were not the dark green I knew all too well. Her eyes were the color of the brightest blue, glowing. I now know she was an alpha wolf. I bowed down on one knee to her. Oh, she is the daughter of a very powerful wolf, and I had no clue.
