Chapter 23 “I have something for you,” Ryan said, coming into Miss Gina’s office Sunday afternoon. All the previous week, after his trip to the small town, he had poured every bit of his concentration into creating the drawings for her. Some were black-and-white, done in pencil or charcoal. Others were pen and ink, washed with color. The final one was of her. As he’d promised himself, he made her look like a Western dance hall girl, her hair a cascade of curls, her dress slightly risqué. “You do?” When she turned to look at him, he handed her the drawings. She went through them slowly, oohing and aahing, smiling with pleasure. When she came to the final one, her eyes widened. Pressing her hand to her chest, she stared at it, then at Ryan. “This is how you see me?” “You don’t like it,”
