The Muse of Section E

Chapter 1: transferee Jasper Jane Mariano (jayjay) stood in front of San Isidro National High School, gripping the straps of her backpack tightly. This wasn’t part of her plan. She had been perfectly fine in her old school, surrounded by familiar faces, routines, and teachers who knew her as a diligent student. But now, due to her father’s sudden job relocation, she had to transfer to this school—one she knew nothing about. When she reached the registrar’s office, she hoped to be placed in a decent section. Maybe the achiever’s class? The science-focused class? Anything but the notorious classes filled with troublemakers. “Mariano, Jasper Jane,” the clerk called. “Yes, Ma’am?” Jayjay responded, standing straight. “You’ll be in Section E,” the woman said casually as she handed over her schedule. Jayjay felt her stomach drop. She might not be familiar with this school, but even she had heard whispers of Section E. It was the section where teachers either lost their patience or gave up entirely. A class infamous for breaking rules, causing trouble, and testing every school regulation possible. At the heart of it all was one name that stood out—Mark Keifer Watson, the so-called leader of their chaos. As she made her way to her new classroom, she silently prayed that the rumors were exaggerated. Chapter 2: first meet The moment Jayjay stepped inside Room 3-E, she realized that the rumors weren’t just true—they were an understatement. Students were throwing crumpled papers at each other. A group of boys was playing cards at the back. Someone had even drawn graffiti on the whiteboard that read: “WELCOME TO SECTION E. ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK.” And right at the center of it all, leaning back in his chair with a devilish smirk and an air of absolute confidence, was Mark Keifer Watson—Keifer for short. He had messy dark brown hair, sharp eyes that held a glint of mischief, and an unmistakable air of arrogance. When he saw Jayjay standing at the door, looking lost and overwhelmed, his smirk widened. “Oh? What do we have here?” he said, kicking his chair back into place and standing up. Jayjay stiffened as all eyes in the class turned to her. The silence was unnerving. “Are you lost, princess?” Keifer continued, tilting his head in amusement. Jayjay clenched her fists. She was not about to let this guy intimidate her. “No,” she said firmly. “I’m the new transfer student. My name is Jasper Jane Mariano, and I was assigned to this class.” Keifer let out a low whistle, and the other students exchanged looks before laughing. “Well, well,” one of the boys muttered. “Poor girl got thrown into the lion’s den.” Jayjay took a deep breath. She wasn’t going to let them get to her. “Where do I sit?” she asked, keeping her voice steady. Keifer smirked before gesturing to the only empty chair—right in the middle of his group of hardheaded troublemakers. “Right here, princess,” he said. “Welcome to hell.” Chapter 3: Survival of the Fittest Jayjay quickly realized that being in Section E meant constantly being on guard. Classroom pranks? Normal. Breaking school rules? Almost a daily routine. Teachers giving up mid-lesson? More common than actual lessons. Keifer and his gang—Drew, Jace, Troy, and Axel—seemed to take pleasure in pushing every boundary possible. They talked back to teachers, sneaked out during classes, and caused mayhem whenever they felt like it. Jayjay, on the other hand, wasn’t about to let herself be dragged into their nonsense. She kept her head down and focused on her studies, determined to prove that she didn’t belong in this disaster of a section. But Keifer? Oh, he loved a challenge. “Why do you even bother, princess?” he teased one afternoon as she furiously scribbled notes while the rest of the class played around. “No teacher actually grades our work seriously.” “Just because you guys don’t care doesn’t mean I don’t,” she shot back. Keifer grinned, clearly entertained. “Feisty.” Over time, Keifer made it his mission to get a reaction out of her. He’d flick erasers at her head, steal her notebooks, or suddenly drag her into his group’s antics just to see how she’d react. But the real turning point happened one afternoon when a group of upperclassmen—notorious for bullying younger students—cornered Jayjay in the hallway. Chapter 4: The Shift “Hey, new girl,” one of them sneered. “You’re in Section E, right? That means you’re fair game.” Jayjay tensed. She had heard about these guys—seniors who preyed on younger, weaker students. When she refused to respond, one of them grabbed her wrist. “Where do you think you’re going?” Before she could fight back, a sharp whistle cut through the air. “Oh no, no, no,” a familiar voice drawled. “I don’t think that’s how we treat our classmates.” Jayjay turned to see Keifer and the rest of Section E standing at the end of the hall. His usual smirk was gone, replaced by something colder, more dangerous. “You guys seriously thought you could mess with someone from our class?” Keifer stepped forward, cracking his knuckles. “See, that’s the problem. Section E might be full of rule-breakers, but we don’t let outsiders touch our own.” The bullies hesitated before muttering curses and walking away. Jayjay stared at Keifer in shock. “You… you didn’t have to do that.” He shrugged. “What kind of leader would I be if I let someone mess with our newest recruit?” “I never agreed to be part of your group,” she muttered. Keifer smirked. “Oh, princess. You’ve been part of us the moment you stepped into our class.” Chapter 5: More Than Just Trouble From that day on, something shifted. Keifer stopped just teasing Jayjay for fun—he started actually looking out for her. Whenever someone tried to mess with her, he was there. Whenever she was stressed about school, he’d casually drop hints to help (not that he’d ever admit it). Jayjay also started seeing a different side of him. Beneath the rebellious, carefree attitude was someone who secretly cared more than he let on. As months passed, Jayjay stopped seeing Section E as a punishment. It was still chaotic. It was still full of rule-breakers. But it was also full of people who had each other’s backs. And maybe—just maybe—Keifer wasn’t just a hardheaded troublemaker. Maybe, he was something more.
