250 years later

428 Words
I reflect on my 250 years of immortality. After accepting our fate, sweet Rebecca and I eventually found others who were cursed, who much like ourselves, hoped to someday break free from the curse. Few have succeeded. Many have tried. We discovered that the name of those who shared our curse were known as vampyres. The curse that was given us left no loopholes for escape, not even through death. Our pale skin and darkened eyes made us societies outcast, feared, misunderstood. We became accustomed to only going out at night, seeking shelter during the day from those who feared us. As creatures of the night, we became free to roam, and in daytime, we lived in a commune for magickal and cursed people, protected from mortals through the use of common spells to hide the area from the sight of the uncursed. Vampyres are not the only beings living in this commune. We have wizards and witches, children of the moons (called werewolves by unknowing humans), faeries and gnomes. All magical creatures not accepted within society are welcome so long as they are friendly and not of evil intent. But tonight it is hoped that Rebecca and I will be freed from this existence. For at last, a descendent of the vicar who blessed our union has joined the priesthood. Our time has come at last. Today begins the modern Easter season, and we will attend the midnight service. The styles and make up today make it easier for us to blend in, and the middle of the night service is held by candlelight, allowing us to hide in the shadows. I pray that tonight we can break the curse. So little is known of the consequences of breaking the curse. Will we die and turn to dust, as our uncursed spirits would have died many moons ago? Will our lives begin anew, as newly weds as we so looked forward to those many years ago? We have discussed these unknowns and more, and though it is a complete unknown, we pray that this curse will end tonight. Others in the compound know of our hopes. Other cursed beings anxiously awaited the answers we would find. If we do not return by daybreak, the others know that the curse was lifted by creating death. If we return it is in the hopes we may have answers for others who are seeking escape from the curse. We pray the answers will be given.
