18- Mate Talk

2215 Words
After getting dressed I walk out my room to find Lucifer waiting for me. I smile at him as he grabs my hand. “I saw Damon leaving here moments ago.” Lucifer begins. “He wanted to talk, to apologize.” I explain. I look up at Lucifer as he asks, “And was his apology adequate?” I nod, replying, “Yeah. I don’t agree with him but I get why he lied to begin with. Even if he had a s**t reason for continuously lying.” Lucifer pulled me to stop at the bottom of the stairs, stepping back into a small alcove that provides a bit of privacy before saying, “What reasons did he give that have earned you forgiveness so quickly?” “You sound like you think I gave in too easily.” I say. Lucifer sighs, shaking his head as he replies, “It’s not that, I don’t want you to get hurt again by trusting him too soon. It’s not easy for people to change.” “I don’t expect him to change overnight but he’s my brother, more than that, he practically raised me by himself. If it wasn’t for Axel he would have been completely on his own. I can’t stay angry at Damon for a long time, he’s too important to me.” I tell him. “I understand, but may I hear what his explanation was? I would like to know his reasoning for withholding such sensitive information from you as well as why he allowed himself to be fooled by that brat.” Lucifer replies. I tilt my head a bit, asking, “You mean Hunter?” “Yes” I smile as I say, “I’ve never heard anyone call Hunter a brat before. It suits him.” Lucifer chuckles as he pulls me beside him and continues walking to the dining room. “I’m glad you agree with my description of brother. Now, let's get some breakfast. I’m starved.” Lucifer says. I giggle as I lean into his side, “Me too. I hope they have bacon. I love bacon.” “I prefer sausage.” Lucifer said. I gasp, “What? That’s insane. How can anyone like sausage better than bacon?” “It tastes better.” Lucifer says, shrugging. “You’re crazy.” I tell him. “Who’s crazy?” I look over my shoulder to see Janie walking up to us with Conner. “Our King, cause he thinks sausage is better than bacon.” I say dramatically. Janie places a hand over her heart, gasping, “No, I can’t believe it. We’re being ruled by a mad man.” Conner laughs and Lucifer glares at us, even as his eyes sparkle. We all sit at one of the tables that crowd around the large dining room. “Oh, your secrets out Lucifer. Prepare for a coup.” Conner laughs. Lucifer rolls his eyes, saying, “I think I’m safe from the Bacon Brigade.” Janie and I laugh as the Omega’s bring out plates piled high with every breakfast food known to man. “The what brigade?” Michael asks as he and Summer sit across from us. “The Bacon Brigade. We’re gonna overthrow the Sausage King.” I say as I grab pancakes and bacon to put on my plate. Summer grins widely saying, “Well, you’re going to have to get past his sausage guards first.” Michael looks between us confused as he piles food of every kind on Summer’s plate. “What are we talking about?” Michael asks as he grabs some waffles for himself. Michael throws a piece of bacon at Conner, hitting him in the face. Conner laughs, saying, “Dude, you are so slow. Let's hope the little one gets his moms brains.” Conner reaches for a sausage but Janie smacks his hand. “No throwing food at the table. If you do, you clean it up.” Janie said. “How come he gets to throw food?” Conner whines. “He doesn’t.” Summer says before smacking the back of Michaels head. Everyone laughs, but Michael just glares playfully at his mate before kissing the side of her head. We dig into our food, Janie explaining to Michael what we were talking about in the first place. When he understood, Michael said that he and Summer both liked sausage better. It made us all tied. Summer passed around the sonogram picture of their baby as well. We all gushed over it and congratulated them. Michael smiled so lovingly at Summer. I’d catch Lucifer looking at me, some of his thoughts floating to my mind without warning. It’s been happening all night ever since we mated. I guess since we now have a mind link between and our bond is complete that I can’t block everything. Based on his thoughts though, I think we should have a chat. Janie and Summer squealed so loudly when they noticed mine and Lucifer’s marks that an omega dropped a dish in surprise when she was passing our table. Janie got up and helped her clean up the mess, apologizing for startling her. Conner could only stare at her, his eyes sparkling and when Janie sat down again Conner started kissing her. Only pulling away when Summer and I started making kissy noises. After Janie promised to interrogate me later, she and Conner stood up to leave. Conner picked Janie up and practically sprinted out of the room. We all laughed at them, Summer singing the sitting in a tree song. Lucifer stands up, pulling me with him, and Summer and Michael begin teasing us too. We walk up the stairs and to Lucifer’s room. I already know he wants to talk about something. I can tell because he gets quiet, gathering his thoughts before speaking. I walk into the room first, Lucifer holding the door open for me. I sit on one of the small couches in the sitting area, until Lucifer picks me up and sits with me on his lap. I lean my head against his neck, kissing softly. Lucifer turns his head to the side, I lift my own to meet his lips. I pull away first, resisting the urge to run my hands under his shirt. “Was there a reason we came in here, or did you just wanna go again?” I ask. Lucifer groans before saying, “There was a reason, but I’d rather have you again.” Lucifer goes to kiss me again but I pull away, “We can later. I have some things to say too.” Lucifer sighs as he sits back, adjusting me over him and I laugh as I feel his hardness beneath me. “You may go first.” Lucifer offers. I shake my head, saying, “Nuh uh, you first.” Lucifer frowns but begins, “I want you to be with me when I speak with your brothers.” I look at him surprised as I reply, “About joining the royal military? Are you sure?” “I’m sure. You are my Queen, they need to understand that. Besides, having you there will keep me from forgetting that they’re your brothers.” Lucifer insists. “I gave you my opinion last night.” I tell him. Lucifer exposes, “Which is why I’m even bothering going forth with it in the first place. I thought Damon, and his people were too divided. You convinced me otherwise. Which is another reason I would like to know what he said to you earlier.” “Why? So you can decide if it’s adequate enough?” I ask. Lucifer nods, explaining, “Yes. Damon is an alpha. That doesn't just mean being able to give orders or train warriors. It also means being able to admit when one's wrong, when they make a mistake, and how they fix it.” “Okay, that’s a good reason.” I admit before explaining everything Damon said to me. Lucifer listened closely, not reacting much to what I was saying until I finished. Lucifer said nothing for a moment so I nudged him, “Well, did he measure up?” “Perhaps. It doesn’t say much for him that he continued to lie and withhold your grimoire simply because he didn’t want to admit his mistake. Although, he did have more to contend with then the average alpha. I can understand where he was coming from. I can also understand his wanting to seem united in front of his pack and me, but he did not succeed. His Beta and Gamma were clearly opposed to him. By siding with Hunter, Damon appeared as if he were agreeing with the actions of one dissatisfied pack member.” I nod along, saying, “I get that, but Hunter isn’t just some pack member, he’s our brother. It wasn’t a pack matter but a family one.” “Everything to do with the alpha family is a pack matter. I’m surprised Damon can manage so well with so many males with Alpha blood around.” Lucifer explains. I look at him confused, “Just because they have alpha blood doesn’t mean they don’t obey.” “No, but it means tensions are always high. It’s unusual to have so many high ranking members of alpha blood, even if they are related. In every pack I’ve spoken to, most sons of Alpha’s leave their pack to either claim one or start their own. There may be one brother that stays, possibly two, but I’ve never heard of all the brothers staying once the eldest becomes Alpha. I was shocked to learn all of your brothers had positions of authority.” Lucifer explains. I reply, “I never knew that. Maybe the reason they all stayed was because they had to. I mean they were all pretty young when mom died and dad stopped being alpha. They never had the chance to leave and start their own lives.” Lucifer nods solemnly, “Yes, that would explain it. It would also explain why you were forced to pretend to be just another alpha’s daughter.” “How so?” I ask. Lucifer answers, “With so many alpha blooded males around, and a pack in desperate need of a Luna, you pushed away your alpha instincts in favor of a traditional Luna female.” “Maybe, I just thought I might only be half an alpha female. Like I’m only half witch.” I offer. Lucifer shakes his head, “There’s no in between. You’re either an alpha or you’re not. And you are one.” I lean my head on Lucifer’s shoulder, saying, “I’m glad I told you last night. I’ve never told anyone except for Janie.” “I’m glad as well.” Lucifer says, kissing the top of my head before continuing, “Now, what did you want to talk about?” I feel my ears heat up and I bury my head in Lucifer’s neck. “Well, now I’m very curious.” Lucifer teases. I smile into his neck before lifting my head. I had a moment of panic and suddenly doubted if this was something he might want but I’ll just have to get past that. If he doesn’t want it we’ll wait but I want it and it’s important to tell your mate what you want. At least, that’s what Axel told me once when he and Joyce got into an argument because he wasn’t communicating. Even so, I avert my eyes from his as I admit, “I want to know where you stand on having a baby.” Lucifer freezes immediately, even where his thumb had been stroking against the skin of my hip. I risk a glance up to see Lucifer staring at me, what seems to be a guarded hope shining in his eyes. Lucifer swallows heavily, “Where do you stand on that matter?” I resist the urge to roll my eyes as I look at Lucifer, “I want one but I’ll wait for as long as you like.” Lucifer smiles widely, “If it’s okay with you, I don’t want to wait.” “Really?” “Really. Leila, I’ve been waiting for a mate, for a family, a long time. But I am aware of your age. I wasn’t expecting you to want one so soon.” “That’s why it’s important to talk about this kind of stuff with your mate.” I say. Lucifer smiles as he says, “Yes, it is. You do know that there is a possibility of you being pregnant now, right? I wasn’t wearing a condom last night, and I rutted inside you. It was near pure breeding.” “I know. I feel the reminder every time I walk.” Lucifer smirks and I hit his shoulder, “Shut up.” Lucifer laughs, before standing with me in his arms, “Now that it’s settled, I think we should make sure you are pregnant.” I laugh as Lucifer drops me on the bed before climbing over me and I smile as he kisses me.
