August “It’s my mother. She and my dad are on their way to the airport.” I tell Kat, settling in the chair next to her again before taking her hands in mine. She hasn’t stopped crying since I got here but I understand. She was her everything, her world, and she would have traded her life for hers without even blinking if it came to it. I couldn’t believe it when I got the news. She called me last night hysterical, telling me she drove off upset after she told her about her father. I got up and booked the earliest flight I could get, only to hear soul-rattling news when I got here. I haven’t really cried; my brain hasn’t been able to wrap around it.
