Today’s competition is what’s known as a “dual meet.” State U will face off against an opposing team in individual and relay events. Typically such meets last most of the day; by the time they return to campus, it will be dark and the cafe probably closed. Depending on how well they swim, they may stop for dinner to celebrate on the ride home, or slink back to their dorm rooms to order in pizza and Chinese takeout to eat alone instead. Individual races will start the day. Rory’s favorite is the medley, which is a combination of four laps in four different swim strokes.
