I tried not to growl at the other women from under my dark brows as they passed, but I seriously failed. My body was placed between them and the girl – who looked like she was going to burst into tears at any moment. They laughed at the sight, the heat of their derision washing over me in its attempt to reach her. I ignored it but the girl shrunk even smaller, nearly foetal as she tried to curl in on herself. “Ignore them,” I muttered harshly, only to soften my tone when I saw how she flinched.
