The rest of our dinner was a little stilted, if not politely awkward. Or, at least, that’s how I felt about it. Gideon seemed just as at ease as he ever was. Was there a single place or situation where he wasn’t perfectly poised and in control. Flashes of riotous hair and swollen lips flashed in my mind. It wasn’t enough to still the flare of something - annoyance maybe? – in my stomach whenever I looked at him. He’d practically declared that he wanted to marry me, was going to marry me, or that this was his ‘intention’ anyway. And now he smiled so causally, opening the door to the car for me.
