The Derby – the racetrack – everything was incredible. I’d never seen so many people in one place, stretching out in front of me as far as the eye could see in a sea of colour and texture that delighted something deep within Not even that one winter where I’d stupidly braved the city centre, all those famous shopping hotspots, on Christmas Eve to get the boys meagre presents with my meagre saving compared.
