“Take the long way around.” It took a moment for the hoarse words to pierce through the fog that had wrapped itself around my common sense – or lack thereof. Only for them to be held for cottony ransom. I didn’t have the sense to feel embarrassed. I was too hot and airheaded for that. I felt as insubstantial as spun sugar and just as sweet. Too far gone. Headed down the path of depravity and temptation. My pulse, thumping and impossible to ignore, was a war drum in my ears, my blood the hands that thudded the skin in order to drive me on.
