There wasn’t enough air left inside of the lift. Not for the both of us. Not with Gideon standing there, so close despite the open, mirrored space. His cologne, hot and smoky today, rose from his skin like a heatwave. It was in my nose. It sat on my tongue. Heavy, it made my heart pound.
