Chapter 28He gave a serious glance before looking away. “She has my talismans, too.” Ken had noticed that he wasn’t wearing them, but she didn’t want to say anything. In the next moment, however, he reached into the side of his jeans and tugged on a familiar cord. His defensive talisman slid out soon after. “All except this one. I told them it was keeping me alive from an old injury. They bought it.” He tried to laugh, but it sounded like a wheeze. “Once they left, I hid it. I didn’t want anything around my neck for that—that thing to get a hold of. Needless to say, it was very persistent in trying to have me for lunch.”
