Chapter 26When they reached the door and moved it out of the way, Terrell could barely enter the building. “Kenna? Zach? Are you in here?” he called to them, trembling. And with good reason. The moment the door opened, a terrible smell wafted out at them. It filled their nostrils and clung to their hair and clothes. It made their eyes water and their stomachs turn. Dakota recognized it, though he wished desperately that he didn’t. Burned flesh and hair mixed with charred wood—and the clear, unmistakable stench of death. Despite the warning, Terrell stumbled inside. He needed to know. Needed to see it with his own eyes. Dakota tried to stop him, but he wrenched himself away.
