IT wasn't until 6 pm when Lois received a call from Heathe, telling her some instructions. And that was the only time that they finally bade goodbye to her parents, to show respect, before leaving in a cab. Although her parents were a bit reluctant for her to leave during the nighttime, she reassured them that she'd be fine, especially because she'd be with Heathe. And it was obvious how her parents trusted Heathe so much that relief quickly replaced the worry on their faces.
"Heathe really doesn't run out of surprises," she uttered as she settled in the backseat.
Lois occupied the shotgun which she had expected. Although they could sit together in the backseat, she agreed that what Lois did was less awkward.
"Well, I can say the same thing. Heathe prepared a lot, and it's crazy. We've never seen her exerting so much effort like this before,"
What Lois said triggered a churn in her stomach. She was well aware of Heathe's not-so-good reputation when it came to having a relationship, but she was also on the ball to see that she was putting an effort into things just to impress her. She couldn't say that she didn't believe her and her friends whenever they told her that Heathe had never courted a girl prior to her. It was up to them if they were lying just to make her feel special.
But, she could feel it in her heart that Heathe had been genuinely honest with her since day one.
SHE had no idea where they were headed. She thought that it was a quick trip, especially when she noticed that they were slowing down. She took a glance outside the cab's window and it took her a moment to realize where they were. However, she might have known the place, but she had never been there, even for a quick tour.
Commuting was her idea, hence she tried to pay for their fare. But Lois firmly refused and gave her money back, instead. She didn't argue, though.
As soon as she got out of the cab, her emotions shambled. They stood at the front gate of Summerland, an iconic amusement park in the entire Georgetown. She had been dreaming of coming here but couldn't do so due to prioritizing a lot of things to earn money. Also, her two best friends didn't have any interest in going to this kind of place, so she couldn't ask them.
Now, even just standing outside the park amazed her already. It looked like it reawakened the child version of her. But the park appeared to be closed at that moment.
With obvious confusion written on her face, she looked at Lois. "Looks like we're late." She uttered then glanced at her wristwatch. "It's still early, though. But where are the people?"
Lois' lips curled into a lopsided smile. "You'll find out, later."
Knowing that Lois wouldn't tell her anything further, she decided to just follow her as she entered the park. They remained silent while treading towards one of the popular attractions called Sweet Trails. It certainly was a perfect spot for kids and kids at heart, who loved to see colorful surroundings. The attraction displayed gigantic sculptures of various candies and chocolates. It might have seemed that she was in a rainbow world.
A broad smile was fixated on her face, most especially when she finally saw Heathe standing at the end of the Bubble Bridge.
She was so captivated by Heathe's appearance that she forgot about Lois. It was when she was already in the middle of the makeshift bridge that she looked behind and saw that Lois was left on the other side. But it seemed that Lois deliberately stayed there because she was motioning her hand as if she was urging her to just walk towards Heathe. Which she obviously did.
She felt a tight knot in her stomach once she got closer to Heathe. She had never anticipated that she could still be more gorgeous in a formal suit. While she, on the other hand, appeared to be underdressed. There were not too many options in her closet and she only picked the dress she had used once. She secretly regretted not listening to Lois when she said that she had to take her time to look more stunning.
However, Heathe didn't seem to mind. Her eyes were only fixated on her face with a bright smile to blend with it.
"For you, my angel," Heathe muttered before handing her a bouquet of flowers that she only noticed at that very moment.
She gasped in surprise upon taking the bouquet and then whispered, "Thank you."
Mixed feelings of excitement and nervousness intensified as Heathe clutched a hand on her waist. Being that it was the first time that someone put a hand on her waist, she tried hard to ignore the tingling sensation brought by it or the moment would be ruined.
They took a short walk to the area where she was greeted by a perfect set-up for a dinner date with wine and candles. What Heathe had prepared for her was beyond her expectations.
Heathe drew a chair out for her before she settled down across from her.
"W-what's this all about?" She asked, keeping herself from showing how she was gushing over their dinner date, particularly, over Heathe's effort.
"Don't you like it?"
"I love it. It's just that... I think this is a lot. I-I'm overwhelmed."
Heathe beamed. "A girl like you deserves to be treated more than you wish for. Besides, I was honestly reluctant about how you would react. You know, I'm not good at this. But, I'm glad you like it."
"You know what, you always claim not to be good at this, but now I think I'm starting to get skeptical. 'Cause the outcome doesn't always seem to have been done by someone who's not really good at this."
Heathe gave off a shrilled laugh. "Silly." Then she stared at her again, making her feel a bit uncomfortable.
She looked down and cleared her throat to dodge the feeling of getting more conscious. And then her eyes cast over the meals that were served on their table. "Uhmm... You know what, these foods are making me hungry." She uttered just to change the vibe. She didn't want them to fall into a deep and serious conversation, yet.
"As expected. Let's eat, then. We still have a lot of things to do." Heathe said in amusement.
Having that dinner together with Heathe bore a resemblance to being in a magical world. Something that she had only seen in movies. The feeling of happiness was so overwhelming that even having a simple conversation was rather challenging.
She was thankful that she finished her meal without being clumsy due to having been shaking all along. Her agitation might have often shown whenever Heathe looked at her, but, to her surprise, she didn't make fun of it as she would always do.
AFTER their romantic dinner, they decided to stroll around the park. With Heathe's hand entwined with hers, she struggled to keep her cool because her heart would've wanted to jump out of her chest. Moreover, when she learned that Heathe rented the entire place only for this date, she fell completely flabbergasted.
Never in her entire life had she thought that she would experience becoming a Princess, even for a night.
"By the way, if you didn't notice, Lois and I arrived without Caddie." She uttered when she realized that she forgot to mention it a while ago.
"Really? Well, I might have been enthralled by you that I didn't realize who you had come with."
She dodged Heathe lightly on the side of her waist. "Silly." But what she was really dodging was the crazy feeling generated by Heathe's statement. "Kidding aside, I let her go to her scheduled date. It's just not right to stand someone up. And I wanted to say this to you 'cause she was hesitant to do what she needed to do. Although she never mentioned it, I think she was scared of getting you upset." She added with a less reprimanding tone.
"If she only mentioned it, I would've also let her go. I don't know that they're afraid. I believe I'm not acting like a superior because we are all even in this friendship. I just asked them to help me out in my situation with you."
"Good to know that you're not being bossy. It's a thing that never really goes well with friendships."
Heathe looked at her and beamed in reassurance. "I know. And enough with that. Let's get in here."
Only then did she notice that they were standing in front of a breathtaking Ferris wheel, also known as the Wonder Wheel. There was already one cabin open for them and Heathe tended to her until they settled across from each other inside.
It was not the first time she had a ride on a big wheel, but the Wonder Wheel was enormous and Heathe's stares were getting the better of her, essentially, creating a tight knot in her stomach.
As the wheel started to move up, her eyes were captivated by the overlooking scenery of their town. The sight was twice as stunning as it was from the hill.
Heathe remained quiet until after the wheel had its 2nd rotation. And then their cabin stopped at the uppermost part.
She gasped as Heathe took her hand. When she looked up at her, she saw sparks in her eyes while staring back at her.
And then she uttered, "Listen to me first, Ayen. 'Cause I can't say it anymore once I become distracted." Her lips were apparently quivering, which put her to a sudden halt to breathe in and out.
While she bit her lower lip to stop herself from voicing an opinion. She didn't want to weird Heathe out of what she was about to say.
Heathe's hold became a bit tense as she resumed, "Ayen, I... Y-yeah, please look down."
It confused her for a second, hence she didn't do as she said right away. But the moment she recovered, her eyes averted to the ground, particularly, to the Lover's Garden.
Just when she thought that they would only watch a light show, she realized that as the lights started to glow sequentially, letters were also forming through them.
Eventually, turning them into an entire sentence that apparently took her breath away.
Be My GIRLFRIEND, Please?
She looked back at Heathe, who just kept her eyes on her. And then back to the lights, again. Funny that she did that in amazement several times.
How could she not? How would she react now that her heart was filled with nothing but happiness? Heathe was unpredictable.
Unable to speak out, she threw herself toward Heathe, instead.
"Ayen," Heathe drawled.
"I'm so happy," she whispered with a cracked voice.
Heathe pulled her tighter. "I know. You've been telling me that the whole night."
"And I also want you to be equally happy," she said before pulling away.
"Seeing you happy makes me happier."
"I know. But won't you be happier once I give out my answer?"
Heathe completely bore her eyes at her in response.
At that moment, she believed that she had just caught Heathe off guard. However, it was not her intention to make her guess, so she was about to explain when Heathe interjected.
"W-what do you mean?"
"I mean, yes. Yes, I'd love to be your girlfriend." She blurted, enthusiastically.
Despite being bewildered again, Heathe instantly recovered and pulled her in for a tight hug. "This is the kind of happiness I've been wishing for. Thank God, I got it from you. I love you."
She smiled and whispered, "I love you more," beneath her warm embrace.
