Lovely Opposites

~ • ~ • ~ SHE couldn't stop herself from occasionally glancing through the rearview mirror while they were in the middle of their journey. As much as she couldn't conceal the smile on her face, she realized that Ayen was actually with her tonight. The girl was busy talking to Lois and Caddie, and they seemed very close. "Now I know why you look so familiar," Lois suddenly uttered. "You were the one who defeated Heathe in a car race!" She then laughed out loud. "Oh, gosh! Yes! Damn, girl! You made Heathe literally eat the dust." Caddie affirmed. "She was in luck that night." She interposed, meeting Ayen's eyes through the rearview mirror, teasing her with a wink. "No, Heathe. She was really good. I mean, aside from you, my friend, I've never seen anyone who hit the racetrack with such incredible driving skill." Lois added. "It just so happened that I wasn't in the mood." She justified. If truth be told, she didn't loathe Ayen for defeating her. She would agree that Ayen was an incredible driver, in fact, so much wiser than her when it came to pulling off tricks. Yes, she was the best racer, but she was always swayed by her ego. Ayen pored over her movements that night and played with her scheme, thereby giving her the taste of defeat. However, she was not going to admit it out loud to her friends. She lost the race, and her friends could mock her as they pleased, but that was the end of it. "If you say so," Said Caddie with an obvious travesty, before turning back to Ayen. "Have you been racing a long time?" "It all started when I met Cole and Trinity. They taught me how to drive. I believe it has been 5 years." She let them go on with the conversation while she was heeding the road in silence. Ayen would direct her to the precise route from time to time until she noticed that they were going uphill. A sudden excitement consumed her as they went up. She drove past a huge gate that was open as if waiting for them to arrive. A house, or could be cited as a mansion, that was situated almost at the edge of the cliff greeted them with such a wicked ambiance. "Is that a haunted house?" Lois asked. No one bothered to answer. She couldn't easily get scared off by such a sight. As for her friends, she couldn't tell. Her eyes were mesmerized by the sight of the sparkling town down the hill as she parked her car. "Isn't this trespassing? We're surely not gonna end up in a good state if we get caught," Caddie asked, worriedly. "I don't think so. We haven't stumbled on anyone claiming this property since the first time we've been here." Ayen answered. As soon as they climbed out of the car, her jaw dropped in amazement. She scanned around the spot where Ayen took them. Despite the frightening sight of the mansion, the place could still be appreciated because of the scintillating overlooking scenery of Georgetown. Her mind and body seemed to have felt so relaxed as they stood by the edge of the ridge. This wasn't the place in her mind that she expected Ayen would take them to. The site was prepossessing aside from the fact that they were standing a hundred feet above the ground where they would surely demise if they were not careful. "Is this still within Georgetown's terrain?" "Who owned this?" She and Caddie asked simultaneously. Ayen was cut off when Lois stated, "Whoa. I'd no idea that we had a place here like this. How did you know about this, girl?" She then turned to Ayen. She saw Ayen shrug. "I knew this place because of Cole." Her eyes averted to her direction, perhaps, to see her reaction. It was never a secret how much she hated Cole. Nevertheless, she stayed calm only to show that she was not bothered by the statement. "Ow..." She nodded. "How come they know about this place, and we don't?" Caddie protested as if it was a big deal. Her friends hated Cole as much as she did. She scoffed silently. Ayen was with them, hence, she should behave herself. "It doesn't matter, guys. From now on, this place belongs to us." She declared, stretching her arms wide open, trying to be cool. Even though she sensed that Ayen was confounded, she couldn't care less. She strode past her only to get a glimpse of how many wrinkles her statement had marked her pretty face. As expected, Ayen pulled the hem of her shirt to stop her from walking away. "What did you say?" Ayen uttered in disappointment. A cunning smile curled on her lips before she turned to Ayen. "What?" She was really fond of playing the fool with her. Ayen's frown deepened. "The thing that you just said." "What...?" She repeated, scornfully. But Ayen had enough of her playfulness. She crossed her arms and stared at her, intently. It wasn't too dark in that area so she saw it when Ayen's eyebrow arched. She then realized to stop fooling around. She breathed out to surrender. "Alright. You heard me, from now on this place is ours." Ayen scowled at her for a moment as if she was waiting for her to take back what she had said. She saw how mad she was at her. "I brought you here because you asked me for a place where we could get Aly clearheaded." She pointed to Aly, who was drunkenly perched against the car's bumper while her head was resting on Lois's shoulder. "We didn't talk about you claiming a place." "You are mad as if I'm going to take away Cole's property. Is this even one of De Grazias's assets?" Ayen's silence was enough clarification that the land was not her enemy's terrain. She felt delighted even though Ayen was undeniably furious about it. If it was one of the De Grazias's properties, she would have known about Arqui, knowing that Cole's brother was her twin sister's best friend. Funny that she could not be friends with Cole but she was a friend of the brother. "See? Nobody seems to own this. I'm going to ask dad to clear things before buying the entire land, be it the entire hill." As much as she didn't want to sound conceited, especially in front of Ayen, she couldn't hide the overwhelming feeling of satisfaction once Cole learned that somebody had bought their hideout. And that somebody was none other than her. Obviously, her idea did not make Ayen happy, but she fell in love with the place to not even listen to Ayen's contradictions. They had the power to know every owner of the properties in Georgetown, and that made it possible for her to get everything she wanted. The perks of being part of one of the opulent clans. Ayen fell silent beside her when they heard Aly bellow. She thought her best friend had dozed off and once awoke, she would be okay, but she undoubtedly hadn't forgotten about her ex-girlfriend yet. "... No... Please... Please... Don't.." Aly sobbed. Her head was tilted down while Lois was gently rubbing her back. "What happened to her?" She heard Ayen ask behind her. Perhaps she was cooling down already after their little debate. "Heartbroken. She happened to meet her ex-girlfriend once again after three months of avoiding her. Eventually, she drowned herself in alcohol." "Ex-girlfriend, huh?" "Yeah." "Broken-hearted lesbian. So, I'm actually surrounded by lesbians." Ayen's remark made her frown. There was something behind it that instantly upset her. "What was that supposed to mean?" "Nothing. I just couldn't believe that beautiful girls like the four of you are different than what you're supposed to be." Her brows narrowed further. Ayen could carry on being so meanie, but tonight was too much. Or she was not in the best mood 'cause she couldn't get mad at her for the past few days, no matter how brusque her opinion was, until tonight. The point was, she got a bit pissed about her statement. "I think we should go." She declared while treading toward her car. When she told her parents, Arqui and her three best friends, about her sexuality, no one ever questioned her. They accepted her with open arms. She accepted her twin sister and three best friends as well, without making them feel outlandish. Not that she felt degraded by Ayen's comment, it was just disappointing that she looked as though she was implying something. She did not want to think that a farm girl like Ayen was judging her when, in fact, a few days ago she told her that they were not going to have an issue about her gender identity. "Heathe, Aly's not yet fine." Lois bustled behind. She ignored her friend as she headed right to the driver's seat. When she slipped inside and was about to close the car's door, Ayen blocked her body. She instinctively looked at the girl wearing her sour face. "Now, what?!" She shouted before she could stop herself not to. It instantly rendered her guilty upon seeing Ayen bite her lower lip. "I did—" "Sorry, Heathe." Who was supposed to be saying sorry? Was it really Ayen's fault? Why did she feel horrible hearing her apologize? "It's fine if you're mad at me. I know, I should try to filter what I have to say, sometimes ." Even though dazzled, she still found Ayen's expression cute. She couldn't get mad at her for too long. "Alright, apology accepted. Make sure that you'll talk gently, starting right now." Ayen smiled and nodded in approval. Sulking was over for childish Heathe. She decided to get out of her car. If Ayen was going to persuade her every time she was grumpy, she would be the best girlfriend she could ever have. But she would think about that later on. In the meantime, she had to attend to the current situation her friends were facing. She immediately ran toward her friends, who looked like they were struggling with each other. "What's happening here?" Her voice was filled with concern for Aly. It was the first time she had seen her berserk. She stood in the middle, trying to stop Aly from tussling. "Hallucinating. I can just push her from this edge if you wish." Caddie stated, annoyed, as she held onto Aly's arms. "Hey!" She grabbed Aly by the shoulders and twisted her for a face-off. "What's happening to you, honestly? You're scaring the s**t out of me." Aly's face was soaked with tears. Her hair was disheveled and had gone in different directions. Basically, she was a total mess. She somewhat took pity on her best friend. Unlike the three of them, Aly was exceptional when it came to having a relationship. She had loved one girl, who unfortunately caused her to self-destruct. This was all she got in return for being loyal. A shattered heart that they had yet to know how to mend. They were the glaring witnesses of Aly's love story that revolved around fights more than makeup. To be honest, it occurred in her mind that the relationship would not last. Despite being always together, the relationship wouldn't work the way Aly wanted it to, especially when only one of them was truly in love. A one-sided love affair. They had seen it, crystal-clear. Aly's ex-girlfriend never loved her the same way. "She's... She's... Pregnant.." The news was not even shocking. Aly was telling them how she was constantly being cheated on by her ex-girlfriend. Francine, the ex, had been chatting and texting other guys and had always been a liar. Telling Aly that there was nothing more than those friendly conversations and she should not worry. "Pregnant, huh? So, are you crying because she got pregnant? Is that even a problem of yours?" She smirked. "The guy ran away. She cannot carry the child all by herself. She needs someone to look after her while she conceives. She needs someone..." Aly cried. The way Aly went on with her statement, she was getting a hunch that they were leading into nonsense. "And do you think you're that someone? That's bullshit, Alesana!" She shouted, raking her fingers through her hair in frustration. "What are you trying to get yourself into? That girl left you, for Christ's sake! Which part of the word she doesn't love you anymore did you not understand? Guys, do you know about this?" Lois and Caddie shook their heads. She breathed in and out while massaging her temples. How stupid was it for Aly to carry her ex-girlfriend's problem? It didn't matter whether she still loved her or not, the fact that Francine left Aly for some random guy was enough reason that her best friend should get herself away from her ex-girlfriend. She had been through a lot of pain and it was too much to take that even being responsible for somebody's child was a burden for her best friend. Aly should not keep suffering because of her own stupidity. "I love her, Heathe." Aly sobbed. She scowled. Her madness kept ramping every time Aly would speak about how much she loved Francine. "Don't give me that s**t, Aly, or I may as well push you from this cliff and let you die than see you suffering because you're a fool. Listen, that b***h left you for a prick, got pregnant, well, met her karma, and—" "Heathe.." Ayen whispered, trying to interrupt. But she kept going on as if she heard nothing, "...and here you are, getting out of your mind.." "Heather..." Ayen called again, holding onto her arm. Due to her furious state, she absent-mindedly swung her arm to let go before turning to Ayen. "What?!" It was then that when she saw Ayen get perplexed she realized that she must have controlled her anger. She had done too much for Ayen tonight. Taken aback by the way she acted, she tilted her head down while thinking about what to do next. "You shouldn't talk to her that way. She's still your friend." Ayen reminded her in the calmest way possible. "Well, she must've thought that she's not the only one getting frustrated here. We are her friends, yet she's not listening. That b***h—" "—girl," Ayen corrected, telling her the right way to properly address a girl. But nothing could change the way she saw Francine. "Argh! Her ex-girlfriend had already left her. And the baby she's carrying is not Aly's responsibility. She can't come back here hoping that my best friend will understand her brutish situation." Nobody said anything. She leaned on her hands against the car's roof while breathing in and out, heavily. She could feel her body trembling due to her raging emotion. Of all the things she detested, being fooled out of love ruled over. At their young age, true love had yet to be found. Aly might've only had a caring heart for the baby, but sooner or later she would realize that taking that responsibility was just plain bullshit. "I can't believe I'm talking about this." She smirked, shaking her head. She pulled herself upright and rove her eyes on her friends, which eventually stopped at Aly. Aly was looking down and sobbing. It must have been hard for her to be in that situation and, as a friend, she failed to understand it. "You're stupid, you know that? Even if she was cold-bloodedly dumped by that asshole with something in her tummy, that doesn't change the fact that she... cheated." Aly looked up at her, showing a face that was nothing but a mess. Her eyes didn't seem to want to stop from welling up. Her heart melted as she continued to watch Aly in that state. However, she couldn't control her mouth from saying unnecessary things. All of a sudden, Aly's face became distorted. Much to her anticipation, she released a stinking mix of everything she had ingested. Caddie got closer to their best friend to massage her back while she walked to the other side of the car and leaned her body against it. She slipped her hands into her pants pockets and looked up, pondering. "You don't have to be cruel to your best friend, you know." Ayen stood beside her. Her eyes stayed up, "I'm just telling the truth. I don't want the important people in my life to get hurt. Aly doesn't deserve to be in that situation. Francine didn't love her and now she's trying to use Aly. I cannot just stand here doing nothing to keep it from happening." "Let's say you're right. I also think that Francine is going to use Aly. If that ever happens to either Cole or Trini, I would also think of ways to get rid of messy situations. But, the last thing I would want to do is to argue with a besotted friend." Intrigued, she turned to Ayen to see that the girl was also looking back at her. "There's no sense in having an argument with someone who cannot understand every single word you're saying. In Aly's case, she's boozed up. No matter how many times you tell her this and that, she'll only realize nothing because she's not in her right mind." She took a second to reckon about it. Ayen had a point. How come she was crossing swords with Aly, who could not understand her? Maybe they couldn't understand each other thence, everything was nonsense. Besides, their intention of going there was to clear Aly's head and not to mess completely with her. "Let her mind clear off first. And then you can say whatever you want to her once she's sober." "I just don't like making a scene." Ayen looked over. "No one's around other than us." She smiled with affirmation. "Whenever I'm having a bad day or something, I always come up here just to scream at the top of my lungs. Scream until I ran out of voice to speak anymore. So, it would be fine if Aly would bust up here. Just keep her away from the edge so she won't fall." While watching Ayen as she spoke, she couldn't help herself but get enraptured by the girl's divine heart. Ayen was able to analyze things first before taking action, while she, on the other hand, had always been impulsive. She would rather argue to prove her point whether it was right or wrong, but in the end, it would only make her walk out and go to a place where she could calm herself. She and Ayen were polar opposites, who sometimes love and hate their differences. And she thought that would make them perfect for each other. ~ • ~ • ~
