Far From Home

1218 Words
After walking for so long, I was tired.  I sat down on the ground.  As I was sitting there a car pulled up and stopped. The window of the car rolled down, and a man asks me if I need any help.  I am so tired of walking and not knowing where I am going.  I will take a ride from a serial killer if it means that I don’t have to walk anymore. “What is your name?” he asks. I think for a moment. Should I give him my real name or a fake name. My wolf says I should give my real name. “My name is Lisa.”  “Well, Lisa, I see you are a maid.  Are you running away from your King.” I look down at my clothes.  I completely forgot I was dressed as a maid.  “Yes, I have left my kingdom.” I say quickly. I feel like I can trust him.  My wolf is on guard in case I need to tear him limb from limb.   “No, need to be scared.  I will not hurt you.  I will take you to my King,” he says.  “Who is your King,” I ask. “King David Stirling.” “What is your name,” I ask.  “I’m John the assistant to the King,” he says.  I get off the ground dusting the dirt off my clothes. John gets out of the car to open the back door for me to get in.  He waits for me to be comfortable before he closes the door.  He climbs back in behind the wheel and begins to drive back to the Stirling palace.  “Do you have family at the palace you left?” “I do.” I look nervously out the window trying to not make eye contact with John in the rearview mirror.  I know they are worried about me, and I need to contact them. It was a short drive to the largest castle I had ever seen. I thought our castle was big. John stopped the car in front of the water fountain.  A young man came to the door and opened it for John and he got out. Before I could open the back door myself, he was at my door opening it. John motioned for me to follow him. My wolf is on guard.  I follow him into the palace where we are greeted by the Queen. She was tall and slender. Her red hair was down and flowing around her shoulders. She wore a light blue pants suit. She smiled as John introduced me to her.  I kept my head down most of the time ashamed to look at her.  I finally lifted my head to look into her brown eyes.   “Lisa, would you like to be a maid at the Stirling castle,” she asked. I nod my head while saying yes.   “Okay, well let me get our head maid, and she will show you around and explain the duties.” An older lady came with the quickness.  She was dressed in a blue uniform.  Queen Sierra made introductions and the head maid Aurora took me to the maid quarters. “You are in luck, we just lost a maid. She found her mate. I mean she got married, and her husband didn’t want her to work anymore.” “I understand the mate thing,” I inform Aurora.  She looks relieved and quietly asks me if I’m a werewolf.  I tell her that I am. She went on to tell me that they do have humans that work at the castle and they are aware of who their employer is. She gave me a tour of the castle and explained my duties were to clean the bedrooms for the King and Queen, and the Prince.  That is what the other maid did before she left. Once I settled in, I called my brother. It has been two weeks now, since leaving my palace. Lance POV My beta Steve and I shifted into our wolves and jumped the south wall.  I sniffed the area trying to find what direction she went.  We ran for miles going west. We shifted back and put our clothes on.  Lisa could be anywhere. Steve and I rested for a while not knowing which way to go next. She really covered her tracks.  We started walking east and before long my cell phone rang. “Hello,” I said. “Hi.” she said in a soft voice. Before I could say anything else, she let me know that she was okay and not to try and find her. She was not coming back, if she had to marry Collin.  “Please, don’t tell anyone that you have heard from me.” she asked. “Mom and dad are worried sick,” I informed her. “Just let them know that I’m okay.” There was a long pause before anyone said anything else. “You must be pretty far cause I couldn’t mind link you.” I was hoping Lisa would tell me where she was, but she wasn’t giving that information.  I was pacing back and forth during the conversation. She knows that I would come for her.  I had to trust that she was okay and would return when she was ready.  We walked back to the palace in silence. I was a little relieved to know that Lisa was okay, but I was still mad that she wouldn’t let me know where she was. I could tell that Steve wanted to say something, but not sure where to start.  “I sense that you want to say something, Steve.” “I don’t understand why we are searching for Lisa, who doesn’t want to be found.” I pondered over those words as we continued to walk back home. I guess he was right and that I should stop searching, but I had to see her for myself that she was okay.  I’m her big brother. Her protector and confidant.  We are inseparable and she’s breaking that bond.  I dreaded having to tell our parents the information that I had about Lisa. I took a deep breath and went inside the palace doors to where everyone was still in a panic of Lisa leaving. I informed my parents that she was okay as they drilled me with questions.  I had no answers.  My father walked away frustrated with his hands on his head.  Mother began to cry as I tried to comfort her.  I was not going to give up my search for her.  I mind linked Steve. “We will continue our search for Lisa.” “I am here for you. I will go wherever you have me to go.” “Thank you, Steve.” I broke the mind link. I made sure my mother was calm before I headed to my room. I got out my computer.  I pulled up a map of the area to try and figure out where she might have gone.
