Chapter 1 - Realisation

{Ezra’s P.O.V}

I can’t believe this is happening. Maia Anderson is meant to be dead, she was reported as such more than five years ago now. What is going on? Owen is going to lose his mind

“Alpha Owen, you need to come to the pack hospital immediately.” I commanded down the phone

“Ezra, what is it? I am in the middle of…” he started to respond

“OWEN, MAIA ANDERSON IS THE YOUNG WOMAN YOU BROUGHT IN FROM THE STORM. GET HERE. NOW.” I shouted in my Beta voice. I was sure he was going to put me in my place for talking to him like that, but needs must and I needed him to drop everything and come home.

“Leaving now” he said gravely and hung up the phone. I started to pace the hospital waiting room waiting for Owen to arrive. If this is true, if this woman is who she says she is, life as we know it is about to change, and fast.

{Owen’s P.O.V}

Ezra must have this wrong. If this woman was Maia Anderson, I would have smelt her, she was destined to be my mate, it was written by the Moon Goddess herself. I ran from my office downtown and got into the car.

“Oscar, straight to the pack hospital please and as quickly as possible”

“Yes Alpha” My head of security responded.

My mind was racing a mile a minute and I couldn’t concentrate. Maia Anderson and her family were killed, it was why that Cain kid was now Alpha to the Silver Moon Pack. He challenged William and he killed them all. Ezra must have it wrong… But why would someone want to pretend to be her? This made no sense and I sure as hell was going to get to the bottom of it.

As we pulled up to the pack hospital about 30 minutes later, Ezra was waiting outside looking impatient

“Ezra, how do you know it’s her? For certain I mean?” I questioned as I got out of the car and started to run towards this woman’s room.

“Well, er, she just said her name and then I, er, called you…” He trailed off at the end look sheepishly.

“You didn’t even check her pack mark?” I said shooting him a disbelieving glance

“Er, no I didn’t.. Sorry Owen, should have thought…!” as he shrugged  his shoulders

As we got closer and closer to the room, I started to feel Aiden – my wolf – stir in my mind.

What’s going on Aiden? Are you okay?

Our mate, she’s here… but… she’s not fully herself… Something’s wrong..

I started to panic and picked up my pace, I burst through her room door and picked up on the slightest sent of Red berries and roses, the sweetest smell I have ever smelt.. but then, but then it disappeared.

{Maia’s P.O.V}

I heard people approaching before I saw them, it sounded as if an earthquake was slowly making it’s way to my hospital room. I sunk deeper into my bed pulling the sheets up to my face, scared and unsure about what was coming my way.

What is going on? I thought more to myself then Kendra, I had given up on hearing her a long time ago.

It’s.. It’s him I faintly heard Kendra’s voice in the depths of my mind.

Kendra? Kendra is that you? Where have you been? Are you okay?

Silence. She was gone again and in that moment, the most beautiful man I had ever seen burst into the room. I couldn’t move and I couldn’t stop staring at him. Who is he? He was tall, must be at least 6’4, he was muscular but so lean. He had black curly hair, golden smooth skin and emerald green eyes that I felt searching my soul.

“Maia?” If I hadn’t have been studying his face I never would have realised he whispered my name.

“Ye…Yes?” I stuttered under his gaze

“Is it really you? From Silver Moon?”

“Yes, do I know you?” I said a little more louder.

“Ss..Sorry, my Name is Owen King, Alpha of the Golden Summit Pack…” He said still staring at me intently. I c****d my head to the side, Owen King? That name sounds so familiar, but why?

“Can I see your pack mark?” he shouted suddenly “Sorry” he said calming his voice down as he saw me flinch “Can I see your pack mark please?”

“Erm, sure, yes, but Alpha Owen, I really must be going..” I said as I started to reveal my ankle from my hospital covers. The movement made my body ache with pain, but something about him made me want to do anything he asked. He took a sharp intake of breath and moved forward to touch my pack mark, a small silver crescent moon behind my left ankle bone. As soon as his fingertips touched me, I felt a small electric shock but as soon as I felt it, it was gone again.

What the hell is going on?

It’s him Maia – Kendra said again, slightly stronger. At the same time Owen snapped his face in my direction and started sniffing the air.

“Maia, I know this is going to sound really strange, but I think I am your… your Mate?” He said more as a question

“But how? I have seen people find their mates before and they have this strong scent attraction and can’t keep their hands off each other.. I am sorry to say Alpha Owen but not only do I not smell you, I also don’t want to touch you. I also really don’t want a mate. All I WANT is to please go home!” I said more angrily

It was only as Doctor Thomas stepped round Alpha Owen that I realised we weren’t alone

“Maia, this may sound strange, but when was the last time you spoke with your wolf?” Doctor Thomas said softly. I looked back at him really confused as I thought about it

“Errrr… She said a couple of words a minute ago but I haven’t spoken with her properly since before I came here.. Why?” I replied, staring at him strangely as a look of realisation washed over his face

“I think I understand what is going on here…” he ushered for Alpha Owen and Beta Ezra to sit down on the sofa in the corner, as he sat on the desk and started to explain.
