Alex stood to one side of his brother’s room, keeping out of the way as Aaron tended to him. Both his father and Elizabeth had shown up promptly, which wasn’t unexpected given the sudden nature of William’s collapse. Still, he’d done what he could while waiting for Aaron to attend, even if it was only to maintain a mental barrier between his brother and the veil. He didn’t want to make mental contact again to attempt to soothe the pain he felt emanating from his brother’s mind. The genuine fear that he could burn out William’s mind gripped him.
