The sky tore like paper. The woman with ink-hair and red pen stood on the porch like she owned it. Like she owned us. Lily stared up at her, then at me, then back at her. No fear. Just curiosity. “You’re not the Reader,” she said. “The Reader was a boy. You’re a girl.” The woman smiled. Sharp. “I’m the Editor. Boys read stories. Girls fix them.” She raised the red pen. The sky flinched. A line dragged across the blue—thick, bleeding red. Where the line passed, stars vanished. Not erased. Corrected. *DELETE: STARS. INSERT: DARKNESS.* Darkness fell at noon. Sinner moved. No words. Just action. He shoved Lily behind him, grabbed Hope from my arms, and backed us into the house. Slammed the door. Locked it. Useless, but he did it anyway.
