CHAPTER 14THE TOWN MEETING WAS HELD in a church, a simple building, designed for the tropics, dark and cool inside, with window openings on the shady north and south facing walls, window openings without glass. The chief called the meeting to order and an elder poured libation. The secretary read the agenda and the minutes of the previous meeting following procedures which I suppose are common all over the world. The chief intervened to note the presence of a visitor and to tell me that I was welcome and should feel free to participate. Then the elected elder responsible reported on the successful arrangements for the events of the past weekend.
