Part 2

Jonathan, surprised by the warning tone in her words, nodded with concern, expressing his understanding: "I understand, I won’t open them until I arrive in Paris. But why this severe warning?". Elizabeth, with a tone carrying both threat and assertion: "Because the information contained within is extremely sensitive and could endanger you if revealed at the wrong time. We live in a world where information is power, and power can attract the wrong kinds of attention. I want you to be safe, Jonathan." Jonathan, realizing that Elizabeth was speaking with utter seriousness, said, "I will follow your instructions, Elizabeth. The envelope and the map will not be opened until I reach Paris". Elizabeth, with a satisfied yet cautionary look: "Good, remember my words, Jonathan, and good luck". Elizabeth nodded her head in a mix of thanks and farewell, watching Jonathan as he left the place, his steps carrying him towards an unknown destiny. His departure from the place was a step across into a new world. The streets he walked back to his home were familiar, yet they seemed completely different to him now; every corner and every light seemed to hide a story yet to be unveiled. Arriving at his apartment felt like returning to his usual reality, but with a different spirit. He sat in his room staring into space, thinking about his upcoming trip to Paris. He realized that this journey would mark the beginning of a new chapter in his life, a chapter that might hold the answers he had been searching for, or perhaps lead him to new questions he could never have imagined. Alone in his apartment that night, Jonathan sat in front of his modest desk, staring into space as he rearranged his thoughts, "Am I about to join the guardians of great knowledge, or am I getting involved with a group seeking to control the world?" he wondered to himself, trying to grasp the new reality he seemed to be slipping into. He continued, "Elizabeth seems sincere, but the power she spoke of... could they have a hidden agenda?" He kept questioning, aware that the line between protecting knowledge and exploiting it could be thin. "And what about this mentor Elizabeth will send to guide me on my journey? What secrets does he hold?". However, Jonathan admitted to himself that his curiosity and desire to understand the truth were stronger than any fear or hesitation he might feel, "Perhaps, if I pretend to agree and engage with them, I might be able to uncover the truth from the inside. I need to see with my own eyes what they are hiding". With this decision, Jonathan decided to keep his doubts to himself, pretending to fully agree with Elizabeth's proposal. He said to himself as he looked out from the balcony of his room, "I will go to Paris, I will meet this mentor, and I will find out for myself whether their intentions are noble or not. If I discover anything suspicious, I will be in a position to act." Jonathan didn't know what awaited him in Paris, but he was ready to take the risk. He knew this journey could change everything, not just for him but perhaps for the entire world. With these conflicting thoughts and accompanying anxiety, Jonathan returned to his desk, closed his notebook, and tried to find some rest in sleep, unaware of the depth of the adventure he was about to dive into. Waking up the next morning with mixed feelings, the sun was spreading its warm rays through the window of his room, announcing the start of a new day, a day that carried with it a bold step towards the unknown. He began to prepare his luggage carefully, putting in his bag what he needed from clothes and personal belongings, in addition to his notebook and pen, tools he could never do without. After finishing his preparations, Jonathan looked around the apartment where he had spent many quiet nights, wondering if he would ever see it again, "Will I survive and return?" he muttered to himself as he closed the door of his apartment behind him, heading to the street to take a taxi to the airport. In the taxi, as buildings and streets quickly passed by the car window, Jonathan was lost in thought, contemplating the step he was about to take, "This journey could change everything," he whispered to himself, staring at the horizon lit by the first light of day. At that moment, his phone rang. Elizabeth was on the other end, her voice a mix of concern and hope. Elizabeth: "Jonathan, are you on your way now?" Jonathan: "Yes, I'm in the taxi now, heading to the airport". Elizabeth: "Good. I want you to know that what you're doing is very brave. Remember, you're not alone in this, we're here to support you." Jonathan, reassuring Elizabeth while swallowing hard: "Thank you, Elizabeth. I'll make sure to keep you updated on everything that happens." Elizabeth: "Be careful, trust your instincts, and if you need anything, don't hesitate to call me." Jonathan ended the call, sighing deeply. The conversation with Elizabeth gave him a glimmer of hope, strength, and also doubt. Jonathan, after his brief farewell to the rain-soaked streets of London, arrives at Heathrow Airport, where the bustle never ceases. People come and go, each with their own story. He heads directly to the check-in desk, carrying a small bag that contains everything he needs for the next few days, in addition to the precious envelope Elizabeth gave him and the map pointing to his first mission in Paris. While waiting in the security line, he feels a growing tension inside him, unsure if it's because of the journey or the secret he carries. He passes through security smoothly, then heads to the boarding gate, sitting beside the window, contemplating the planes as they take off and land, each carrying dozens of stories and secrets. As the plane moves on the runway, Jonathan feels his heart pounding, remembering Elizabeth's words and the mission awaiting him. Once the plane takes off, he watches London shrink gradually until it disappears completely under the clouds. On board, an elderly man who seems friendly and thoughtful sits beside him. After moments of silence, the man begins to speak, "First time to Paris?" he asks curiously. Jonathan, initially hesitant, decides to engage in conversation, "Yes, a business trip," he answers briefly, trying not to reveal too much. "Paris, the city of lights, love, and secrets," the man says with a tone of nostalgia, "But remember, every light casts its own shadows". Those words pique Jonathan's interest, wondering if it's a coincidence or if there's something deeper. They spend the rest of the flight in general conversation, but Jonathan can't shake the feeling that there was a hidden message in the man's words. After hours, the plane lands at Charles de Gaulle Airport. Jonathan feels relieved that the flight went smoothly, but at the same time, the start of anxiety grows inside him as the moment to face the unknown approaches. He disembarks, heading towards the baggage claim area, noticing someone watching him from afar. He can't clearly make out the features, but he feels the gaze following him wherever he goes. After picking up his bag, he heads towards the exit, trying to ignore the feeling of being watched, but he can't deny the intuition telling him that his journey in Paris will be more complicated and dangerous than expected. As he steps outside the airport, he wonders what secrets and situations the city has in store that will forever change the course of his life. Outside Charles de Gaulle Airport, Jonathan stands holding his bag, contemplating the open space before him. The Parisian air touches his face, carrying with it the scents of the city and its overlapping sounds. He experiences a moment of confusion and hesitation, thinking about how to move to the address specified in Elizabeth's message. Remembering he must avoid attracting attention, he decides to use the metro as a means of transport to begin his adventure in Paris. As he heads towards the metro station, he notices someone following him from a distance, the same person he saw watching him at the airport. Jonathan tries not to appear overtly anxious, continuing his way trying to blend in with the crowds. He enters the metro and sits in a seat away from prying eyes, his heart pounding, wondering if he has already entered a cat and mouse game.
