(Isolde's POV)
The black car reversed slowly until it stopped right beside me.
The window came down.
Orion leaned slightly toward the passenger side and looked at me with one eyebrow raised.
"Let me guess," he said, his voice carrying that dry, unhurried tone I had come to recognize from the office. "You couldn't get my attention, so you decided to stand on the side of the road in the cold instead?"
I stared at him.
Of all the things I expected someone to say to me tonight, that was not it.
Something shifted in my chest. That heavy, suffocating weight that had been sitting there since dinner loosened just a fraction.
