I kept walking. "Wait." I heard him move. Fast. He stepped around me and blocked the door. I looked up at him, mortified and exhausted and completely done with this entire night. He wasn't smiling. But the hard edge in his expression was gone. He reached up and shrugged off his jacket in one smooth motion. Then he draped it over my shoulders. I stood there and stared at him. The jacket was warm. It smelled like him - clean and dark and something else I didn't have a name for. It covered the back of my skirt completely. "Wear that out," he said. I opened my mouth. Closed it. "Thank you," I said. He made a low sound of acknowledgment. His eyes stayed on me as I walked out. The hallway outside was quiet.
