(Isolde's POV)
Rosalind was still talking.
She hadn't stopped for the last ten minutes.
"And now she won't come out of her room," she said. "She hasn't eaten since yesterday. Margaret is beside herself."
Her voice was shaking with anger.
"How could he do that? On the night of her mating ceremony? What kind of mate does that?"
I held the phone against my ear and said nothing.
I just listened.
Something moved in my chest. Not quite pity. Not quite satisfaction either. Something in between that I didn't have a name for.
I thought about my own ceremony night with Garrett.
I thought about how Victoria had shown up anyway, like she always did. How she and Garrett had stayed out until morning. How I'd sat in that empty room and waited, and nobody had thought anything was wrong.
