Once I was assured she would be safe, I settled back into the cockpit for the remainder of the transit. As we approached the larger city, I half expected to see some air traffic, even with the comms being jammed. But all that greeted us was silence. I didn’t like it. “Aren’t you going to land at the shuttle port?” Katherine asked as I brought the Endurance in low. I shook my head. “I’d rather we have quick access to the ship. We’ll make a quick pass over the city and then I’ll land the Endurance in one of the streets at the outskirts again.” The pass over the city revealed nothing, which was exactly the problem. Just like in the small town, there was nothing to see. No movements on the streets. No lights in the buildings. Nothing to indicate a living city below us. I brought the Endur
