Sonic field arrays are the kind of weapons some defense engineers dream about. Most sonic weapons, of course, are niche at best. They’re difficult to use and bulkier than their traditional variants. Their advantages include their ability to be tuned so they pass through certain materials, and their variable effective ranges offering both lethal and less than lethal outputs. I guess that’s why I’ve run into them a couple of times, but I never considered them worth pursuing for my own use.
