I looked at the princess to see what offended her so, I saw that she was glaring at the food the maid had brought in. I smiled when it clicked: peaches... the irony was not lost on me.
The maid placed food on her plate so she wouldn't have to move from her seat.
She really was quite something, beautiful for sure but there was a hint of defiance. a strong personality hiding under her proper facade. I smiled. This would be fun, poking the hibernating bear until she woke up.
As I was wondering how I would tease the princess further, a thought ran through my mind. My brother would expect complete submission from this beautifully prickly creature. He would hurt her if she even hinted at a spirited demeanor. I gulped suddenly nauseated. Abruptly, I stood, jostling her injured leg making her wince.
"Apologies, Peach, I forgot I had something to attend to and I'm quite late. I will be back in a few hours to escort you to dinner."
She raised her eyebrow, obviously curious about my sudden need to leave.
"Prince Drake, thank you for aiding me earlier. I appreciate it. Also thank you for your company."
I turned and gave her a charming smile.
I exited the room and walked quickly to the sitting room my mother favored. I burst through the door and shut it behind me. My mother looked up from her book, curiosity flaring in her eyes, but was quickly replaced by a controlled indifference.
"We have a problem, Mother!"
"Do we? Whatever is it?"
"The princess, she is spirited and charming and personable!" At this point I was pacing as panic was coursing through me.
"How is that a problem, my dear?" my mother asked watching me pace back and forth, with concern starting to etch her face.
"HE will hurt her, for that alone. He will seek to break her spirit at every chance. He will...he will..." I growled frustrated at the thought.
"He will do to her what your father did to me?" my mother supplied "I hardly see how this is your problem my dear" my mother stated.
I looked at her, desperation probably read on my face. Terror for her future, her life and her happiness: it was eating me alive.
My mother's eyes widened, horror spread across her face
"No, no my dear. You cannot. She is intended to your brother."
I looked to her confused "Cannot what?"
"She is your fate my dear.Your other half. But you must ignore it."
My body went numb, she was my fatis. That explain d the instantaneous interest and attraction. This realization made everything worse. I had to protect her. She needed me. I just didn't know how or what I could do.
"I will not ignore the willed fates, Mother." I stared determinedly at her.
" Fine.. but you will die for it. You know your brother."
So be it, I thought to myself
