I walk silently by this infuriating man. How dare he try to scare me. How dare he insinuate I cannot take care of myself. Just...just... HOW DARE HE!!
I sigh at my lack of creativity in my internal monologue. I'm angry. I already don't want to be here, and now the brother of the king warns me he is a monster, confirming what I had already heard myself.
We enter the dining hall and I follow Drake and sit across from my father. the head of the table is empty, and there is a woman sitting by my father chatting away animatedly.
My father let out a hard laugh that startled me enough to jump.
"Well that's strange," Drake leaned over and murmured "My mother isn't much of a talker."
I looked down to my hands so I could roll my eyes out of view of my father.
"Did you just hide the fact that you rolled your eyes?" Drake whispered humor covering his face
"Do be quiet," I said as softly as I could.
Unfortunately it was not soft enough my father paused and turned to me, fury in his eyes. I straightened my posture and lowered my gaze.
"What did you say child?" He said in a icy voice.
"I told him to be quiet." I answered meekly.
I felt a sting across my cheek, it took me a second to realize my father slapped me. I remained silent. Any noise would make it worse.
"Come now Link," the woman said in a tentative voice "She was merely playing. My Drake can be quiet the exasperating conversationalist."
I looked up at the woman who looked at me with pity in her eyes.
"Your majesty it is my fault I was poking fun at her. I didn't realize she would be faulted for it." Prince Drake spoke up. I noticed his hands were clenched into fists and they were shaking slightly as if he was holding back.
"She is to only speak when spoken to." my father stated, firmly, "And only when I've given her my damned permission to answer."
"Again, I'm truly sorry your majesty. I didn't know." Drake said hotly.
My father sat and began talking to Drake's mother again. I sat in silence as was expected of me. Dinner was served but I hardly tasted it. I was embarrassed and shamed in front of strangers.
I was excused by my father before I was finished eating, still I rose and allowed myself to be escorted to my rooms. At least at home I could sneak to the kitchens to finish my meal, here I will just have to be hungry.
I entered my room and walked to the balcony looking out over the vast lands. A tear slid down my cheek now that I was alone. I missed my home. I heard rustling coming from inside my room, I turned quickly fear rising in my stomach.
"Peach," I heard him whisper. Why couldn't he just leave me alone. I am tired and done for the day, I just want to be alone. I just-
He rounded the corner and just as I was about to let him feel all the rage I had in me I noticed the tray he had in his hand.
"You've been crying.." he stated, sadness expressed in his eyes "Peach I-"
"Thank you." I cut him off, "It was kind of you to bring me food, as I am still hungry." He nodded placing the tray down and sitting in the wing- back chair across from the sofa. I sat across from him and made a plate for myself. "Tea?" I asked as I poured myself a cup
"You needn't-" he started, but poured him a cup anyway and fixed it how the maid did earlier. He smiled and accepted it without a word.
We sat in silence while I ate until I was full. I noticed how he was quite handsome in an almost exotic way, as soon as I had this thought I pushed it from my head. He would be my brother eventually, no reason to notice his attractiveness.
When I finished he stood, taking the tray. He bowed to me and gave a sheepish smile. instead of walking out the main entrance he left through the servants door.
Sneaky, I smiled to myself. Extremely thoughtful...he was careful to not let my father know...he gets it.
The maids walked in, all blushing. I shrugged off my cloak so they could ready me for bed.
