Detention

690 Words
In Mr Giddy’s office I sat nervously on the edge of my chair, looking at his broad desk. My eyes flitted to the window which was wide open and quite low. I could totally escape out there if there was enough of a distraction, I thought to myself. No. that was an absurd idea. I would only do that in the worst of situations, like if they called my Mum. I would be so dead. If they called Dad, he would understand and refrain from mentioning it to my Mum. If I ran away I would stay away all weekend and call Mum so she could rant at me over the phone and so I could explain myself without her chasing me around the house with her broomstick. Yes, that was a good plan. I hoped I didn’t have to do it but if Mr Giddy forced my hand, I was out of there. Mr Giddy came in and sat down behind his desk. His moustache ruffled as he breathed, and his normally pale cheeks were flushed red. He fixed his beady intimidating eyes on me as he leaned his elbows on his desk and folded his hands together in front of him. “Well Miss Black, obviously you are going to receive a weeks’ worth of detention next week…” he drawled out, “Wait! Aren’t you going to ask for my side of the story!?” I interrupted him. His eyebrows raised slowly at me. “Excuse me? Your side of the story? I fully trust Miss Lowe to be honest to me, and as she has just woken up from being knocked unconscious by YOUR fist, which is totally unacceptable and unexpected from you Miss Black, I believe it is you who is at fault.” My skin prickled with anger, I had forgotten that the whole school board was in the palm of her Father. “I have also contacted your mother and suggested some anger management classes, which I feel like you need,” He added c*****g his head sideways to look at me, probably at my blotchy red skin and my fists balled up on my knees. My fingers which are broken stuck out from my left fist and they felt tight in their bandages, probably swollen again. Wait did he say he contacted my MUM! “When did you contact her?” I blurted out. “About five minutes ago…” he said, that gives me about ten minutes to get out of here before she arrives, I thought to myself. I had my plan all planned out I just needed a distraction. Ella! Of course! I quickly typed a text to her number which she had put on my phone during second period. ‘Hey grl, can u cause a distraction plz. A big one.’ I pressed send then held my breath. A few minutes went past before BEEP! BEEP! PLEASE EVACUATE THE BUILDING THROUGH THE NEAREST EXIT! BEEP! BEEP! The fire alarms and sprinkler system started up their ear-piercing scream in the building. “What the Hell?!” grumbled Mr Giddy. “stay where you are I’ll be back once I sorted this out.” He said directing a finger at me. I just shrugged. As soon as he disappeared around the corner I made my way to the window. Dropping my crutches out the window I shimmied to the edge of the window sill. Dang I forgot this was on the second story of the building. I cursed under my breath hanging from the window ledge, before I jumped for the bush below me. I can’t say it was graceful but I didn’t break anything so that was a bonus. Collecting my crutches I headed off around the building, hugging the wall and ducking under the windows. I made it to the carpark and pulled Chris’s spare pair of keys out my pocket, unlocked the car and jumped in. Part one of plan: escape Mums fury was over now for part two.
