“The Kappa team is here,” I mind link Ariella while warriors get out of the trucks. “They’re taking over, we can go home.”
“How many?” Ariella’s voice is hoarse as she watches the injured being carried to the trucks.
“Two dead,” I reply. “Five injured, including Preston. Kyle updated me that Preston will be fine if he makes it through the night.”
“I’m sorry,” Ariella gently strokes my fur. “I know he’s your best friend.”
“Let’s go,” I trot away towards the truck.
We have stopped every vampire from entering the portal, but it does not feel like a victory. We have lost good men, and the end is not in sight. Goddess knows how many could die tonight.
