Comfort

We sat on the waiting area so the nurse can set up a visit request for Liz. She called earlier but since the hospital is full we weren’t advise to come because there are still patients who have Covid. But we now have vaccines and a modern tool like when it’s injected you no longer need a vaccine for another five years of your life. So we were checked and are cleared to stay at her mom’s side for an hour. Liz stayed calm and didn’t cry at all. She talked with her mom who is groggy with the drugs injected on her to stop the pains all over her body. But as if her mom cried a tear on her eye when Liz said she loves her. It stabbed my heart so much that I almost cried and wanted to hug Liz to comfort her.  When we arrived her condominium I was silent and Liz is still crying. She held back her tears so her mom wouldn’t worry about her cause she loves her so much she doesn’t want to see her suffering like she is now. I held Liz’s hand and now pulled her close to me to give her a tight hug. She hesitated but hugged me in return and cried or let me rephrase it, sobbed like a child with a scar or wound being medicated. Liz really shouted and cried like there’s no tomorrow. And now since she’s tired crying, I asked to accompany her to her condo and stay for a while just as she can recuperate after this touchy event. Anyway tomorrow is a Saturday and I don’t need to come to work since Sherrie will be there to organize everything for me. Okay, Liz said almost in a whisper. I put her to bed in her room, which is pink and purple by the way. Plain but really neat with a tiny plant on her makeup and work desk. She has a mini library and a queen size bed fit for a queen herself. She has a tiny fridge at the end of the bed and a big television on the wall above it. Her windows are closed with a white thick loose curtain. A painting about a woman’s lip covered the head board. The air conditioning unit is on the left side of the wall on top of the glass sealed doors where the terrace is located. A pretty big space but well, little compared to my bathroom with my bath tub in it. Okay sleep now, I’ll make myself at home, then, I added while pulling the comforter to tuck Liz in and make her comfortable. I went downstairs to check on the food she has that I can experiment on. And hmm, she had bake mac and cheese, plus strawberry cake with four slices and ice cream, with five or more flavours on the freezer. Haaa!, mostly sweets, I didn’t think she love the sweets but now I think she’s the sweetest woman I’ve ever met, a joke but not quite, sorry!. Hehe!, Vic said now fixing the mac and cheese and heated it. Then she plated the cake with some vanilla ice cream on top. It just took me an hour to prepare the meal and I hope this makes her feel better after all I’m a good cook. I watched T.V. in the living room and turned the fire place on. I boiled some coffee and prepared some to drink so I won’t feel sleepy but alas, I think I still fell asleep since I was very tired after waking at about 2 a.m. this morning. And it’s almost 11 p.m. now. Maybe she won’t wake up now and sleep all the way through morning. Vic now asleep on the sofa with her back from the television and curled up since it’s pretty cold at night in Beverly Hills in the month of February, 2025.  Liz woke and saw that she was tucked in her bed well. She felt hungry and checked on the time on her side table watch. It’s about 11:45 p.m. now and my stomach is growling from hunger. I went out of the bed and walked down the stairs to find the dining table with plastic wrapped bake mac and cheese and cake with melted ice cream. Who made this? I wonder, Liz asked thinking who would do this for her? Then she saw Vic on the sofa sleeping like a curled ball with the fire place not turned high so she was cold. I took the liberty to smile and got a comforter from the guest room beside the kitchen. She did this for me, how sweet!, Liz said to herself. Vic is so cute and so sweet, she couldn’t help but kiss her on the cheek. Oh Vic you are indeed a gem, I now see how those girls run after you, not because of your charm or money but your sense of romance and your kindness, Liz looking at Vic with a smile. Her heart is overflowing with love and respect for this woman lying on her sofa uncomfortably.
