Against All Odds

CHAPTER I - The Knowing

Before that event........

Isla Versoza is a Literature professor at Hilton University. She lost her mother at a very young age. Her father remarried when she was 16 years old and she has a stepsister who is a year younger than her. Although she's not in good term with her stepmother, her stepsister is her best friend. 

Isla is in a relationship for 6 years with Matteo. She is now successful at the age of 22. She was a working student all through out her college years. She decided to leave the house just after she graduated to establish her career. It was a piece of cake for her because she graduated as Suma c*m Laude at the university that she's teaching today.

Every sunday, she goes to her father's house to visit.

"Dad, how are you?" Isla said as she entered the house. Her father closed the door behind them. She looked around the house that she used to call home and noticed that he is alone.

"Don't mind me. Allison just went to buy some groceries she will be here in a couple of minutes. Your sister, Lexie is in her room. How about you?" her Dad said while motioning her to sit on the couch. 

"I've been busy. Summer vacation is near so I am rushing a lot of documents." she noticed the picture of her father with his new family in the side table of the living room instead of their family picture. "So, I'm literally out of the picture, huh?" she added without even thinking. She saw the look in her father's eyes. The same way he looked at her when she made him  choose between his new family or her. She is a warrior but this is the war that she does not have the chance to win.

"Isla" is the only thing he managed to say before she cut him off.

"Dad, I'm just kidding" she laughed to avoid the awkward situation. Her father looked at her and she just smiled.

"Anyway, how's it going between you and Matteo? He went here alone yesterday." her father said. She visit her father with Matteo sometimes but she can't see why he visited alone.

"Maybe he wants to see you?" even she cringed at her own idea.

"I'd like to think so. But I was shocked when I saw him two times shocked than me like I should not be there. He just ran like he saw a ghost." she was about to reply when she saw her step sister going down the grand stairs with a smirk plastered.

From that moment, she knew. Matteo and Lexie have an affair. She just needs to prove it and she knows exactly how to do it.
