Chapter 5

854 Words
Elvia walked out with a bitter smile on her face. The courage she used to face Damon in the restaurant all gone, leaving her looking like a lost puppy. Although she liked the fact that she was able to take control of the conversation, she didn’t think the man would take it lightly, or even go through with the offer. She could clearly see the unhidden emotions on the mans face, clearly showing how pissed he felt. What was that she also saw? Disbelief? She scoffed. He must be one of those pampered children who had servants at their beck and call. He probably wasn’t expecting that from a ‘vulnerable’ girl who just got dumped by her boyfriend. Speaking of which, she smiled bitterly at her foolishness which she mistook as love, for not being able to see the quenched fire in Clinton’s eyes when they had conversations the past few weeks. “Ha! How moronic of me… I wonder how he’ll feel if he learned I am in a relationship with a rich man. Clinton; you will regret your foolish decision!” She never thought Clinton would break up with her, as he had always been there in every stage of her life since college. And this break up meant change in a lot of aspects in her life as well as plans. She just couldn’t believe how hard it was to build a relationship and how easy it was to break it. She compromised a lot, and said sorry even when she wasn’t at fault all because she had to please Clinton. Now that she thought about all those sacrifices, she felt like a huge puppet in Clinton’s game even if that’s not what it seemed like at the beginning. As she thought more about it, she felt a banging sensation forming in her head, and the need to scream out her frustration engulfed her. Clinton had always been her adviser and source of inspiration, so what was she going to do now? She wondered, as a tear made its way to her face, followed by another, until it was flowing. She just couldn’t figure where she went wrong. Didn’t she love him enough? She recalled the memories they created together. Those were the best days of her life so how was she supposed to move on? She hailed a cab, and kept thinking about what her life was going to look like without Clinton. When the cab got to the location of her house, she alighted and paid absentmindedly. She didn’t bother to take the change as her mind was clouded with more important things. “miss… miss… hello? You forgot your change” the cab driver called, but Elvia didn’t even pay attention to him. She entered the house, ignoring the aroma of freshly baked pies, as she was already filled with so much on her plate tonight. She climbed the staircase to her room, and let herself fall on the bed, sobbing loudly. “how could you do this to me Clinton? After every promise you made. I have loved you unconditionally, and I still do. I gave you my first kiss Clinton. Why?” “ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!” she wailed loudly with a heavy heart. She felt her heart being squeezed and the pain just kept on multiplying. The pain was just unbearable as she saw Clinton as a future husband, envisioned him and her kids in a happy home, but she just watched the dream crumbling in front of her very eyes. “no! no! no! no! no! no!” she punched her already tear stained pillow which much force, envisioning Clinton’s face as the pillow. “Elvia? Elvia dear? What’s going on?” she heard a panic-stricken voice outside her room but ignored it. “Horse pile! How could you even make a promise only to break it so easily? I thought promises are meant to be kept?!” she said in a loud voice in between her tears. Clinton was her first boyfriend, and because of how much closeness they shared, this sudden breakup was really unexpected. The door suddenly clicked open. But Elvia was completely absorbed in her heartache that she didn’t notice it. “what in the world do you think you are trying to do? Make me die in panic? Why are you crying in so much despair?” “Did anyone hurt you?” Maggie, Elvia’s mom kept asking questions in confusion. “how did you get in mom?” Elvia asked, ignoring her mom’s questions. “is that what I asked?” her mom replied, pissed at Elvia’s stubbornness. “And since when did you start caring? Huh?!!!” Elvia asked, while another tear made its way down her cheeks. “I just needed love! Just love. Enough love! Is that so much to ask?” “Elvia, I know you felt and still feel like I wasn’t there, and believe me I didn’t like not being there a lot of times for you, but believe me I prayed all the time for you” Maggie said to her daughter.
