Chapter 8

“so, what character do you want me to portray to your family?” Elvia asked, not wanting to waste any more time. ‘wow…. that was quick’ Damon thought. He didn’t expect her to indulge by now. He expected her to maybe be more demanding and controlling just like she did on their first meet. He could only wonder what made her levelheaded and even calm, he narrowed his eyes at her. “well, you basically need to look good and behave elegantly. Maybe try to engage in conversations. He said. She frowned, looking at him, not quite understanding the character he wanted. He sighed “carry yourself with style and grace. Be sophisticated both in appearance and manner. He added. She nodded her head, understanding what was required. “do I need a fake identity too?” she asked, wanting to be clear on everything. This lady was smarter than he thought. He liked her a little for that fact. At least the negotiation between them wasn’t in vain. “No, there is no need for that. My family can smile to your face, but investigate your life later on, so just be real. Tell them who your parents are and what they do as well. Elvia just nodded while looking at him with curiosity in her eyes. He pinched the space between his brows. “ask away” he said as he knew this moment was inevitable. “why do you need to employ me for this? And yes, I used the word ‘employ’ because you are paying me for my services. And again, I know you need me more than I need you.” She asked with sarcasm evident in her voice. He was stunned by the question, but his expression changed in a second. He knew that he had the choice to answer or not, and thankfully, he was already prepared for such happening. Their contract was in front of him, and he smirked. The contract had rules, and one of them is not indulging in each other’s business. “Rule no.1, no questions allowed” he said. Elvia looked at him with irritation, but didn’t push for the answer. He was quite surprised, as her behavior right now didn’t quite match with the woman he met up with few days ago, that was dumped by her boyfriend. He was thankful that they wouldn’t be having any problems until his grandmother transferred his inheritance to him. He was glad that he was one step closer to getting a chance at making a change on the company. And no matter how much they hate his ideas, they would all be under his command. Especially his aunt that wants her son to be the heir, but too bad for her, he wasn’t a Ryker. Damon was the only son, the only one that carried the last name of his family. So the rule for him to get his inheritance was to be in a relationship. Although he couldn’t figure why his grandmother would place such condition, he had to play along even though he always said he was still young and wanted to make more youthful memories. He didn’t even consider marriage at all. He had a lot of ambitions, and knew that women were just playthings that he wouldn’t let stand in his way. He wasn’t ready to be left behind after giving relationship a try. He chose being single and nothing else. Relationships required a lot, and he wasn’t ready for that even at heart and wanted to enjoy the life he had now to the fullest. He laughed at his friends in relationships who for a reason or two, couldn’t attend their weekly nights out clubbing, or whine about the ongoing fights with their girlfriends and those were things he avoided badly. He loved his freedom, yet they wanted to get him married as soon as possible. God! He was yet to finish college, and here they were. He was relieved that Elvia understood how to follow rules and that’s all he needed at the moment as it seemed she wasn’t interested in him at all. He knew that she was only doing this because of the money and the urge to get back to her boyfriend. At least she wasn’t other desperate and greedy girls who wanted him because he was handsome and rich, and tie him down by getting pregnant with his child. He knew she was different as he could see the irritation in her eyes every time he met them, but for some reason she agreed to the offer. She probably needed the money. That’s the only possible thing he could think of, but she kept repeating the fact that he needed her more. Though he didn’t agree with that statement, all he cared about was his inheritance to be transferred to him and after that, it would be over between them. It was stated in their contract that they would be parting ways like all this never took place and even if they come across each other, they wouldn’t act familiar. They were very clear about this being purely a business agreement with no strings attached. “ok then, don’t worry. I should know how to handle this” she said and wore a smile on her face that showcased her perfect teeth and further highlighted her pointed nose. As he looked at her, he wondered why her boyfriend left her. She was very beautiful compared to the women he had encountered in this same restaurant when he came to search with his eyes. Her hazel eyes were gorgeous and the woman was attractive. She also had the eye for fashion, so she was just the perfect tool for his plan to come to perfection. Beautiful, but not into him. Exactly what he needed. “Good. Here’s the upfront payment I stated I was going to give you, I added the money for a dress in there, so you can look exquisite tomorrow. Although my family will be expecting you today, I will tell them that it was sudden for you, and you will be coming tomorrow since you have arrangements to make. Remember, you are appearing in front of the Ryker family, so ensure to buy clothes from known brands” he said, not wanting to sound rude, but he knew his family, especially his aunty who loved pointing out faults and didn’t want Elvia embarrassed in front of them. “No need to explain much Damon. Just sit back and watch tomorrow unfold. Also, I don’t know who is making you worry so much, but I will figure how to handle the person.” She said and took the cheque from him. “Well, whatever you do, try not to be stupid. Don’t pull any embarrassing stunts.” He said in a tone that didn’t give room for arguments. She smiled while saying, “Affirmative sir” “something else you need?” he asked, not wanting any loopholes in their plan. She shook her head “nope. I’m good. I am going out with some friends, so you can leave if that’s all. Contract’s signed, so I don’t see anything else.” She said, and called on a waiter. “ok, but tread carefully from now on as I am very sure you will be investigated after the introduction. They are rich people who care a lot about reputation. Don’t get us into trouble before the goal.” He said while standing. “Being with my friends won’t ruin your family’s reputation, but ok.” He could see the irritation on her face, but didn’t bother. “I am holding you by your word Elvia. This isn’t just about the money. The company means so much more.” He couldn’t give his family any reason to doubt, especially his aunt. “This plan can’t be ruined. You would understand better when you meet my family members.” “Fine. Your plan won’t be ruined. Not by me at least. I won’t do anything stupid. Not that I am stupid though” she said with sarcasm. “Good. I better get going. Send an email if you need anything” he said and left. Elvia followed him with her eyes while sipping her juice and wondering many things. She couldn’t shake off the weird feeling about him. She looked at the cheque and was amazed at the amount. It seemed he needed this to go without a single flaw. She smirked as an idea popped in her head.
