After tonight, they would start living in the same house, and Laura wondered if what happened tonight would ever be mentioned again as she closed her eyes.
Chris tapped her gently when they got to the house and held the car door open for her. Laura staggered out of the car, half-awake, and walked barefoot inside.
He picked up her shoes from the car and followed her inside, helping her with the door so she wouldn’t bump into it. He guided her to a seat once they were inside.
“Wait here, I’ll get you some water,” he told her and went to the kitchen to prepare honey water.
When he returned, she was no longer sitting where he left her. He heard her voice upstairs and followed the sound, calling her name.
