“Did you choke? Are you okay?” he asked, concerned.
Mira’s smile stiffened. She had been talking to him all this while, and all he gave were one-word replies. Yet, the moment Laura coughed, he rushed to her aid.
“Take it easy. The food isn’t running away,” Mira said with a forced smile.
Chris looked at her calmly.
“We didn’t sleep together. We were in the same room with your friend, and she’s the one who hugged you to sleep, not me.” He said it all in one breath and went back to eating.
Mira froze, glaring at Laura angrily, but then forced another smile.
Laura had had enough. She stood to leave for work, but Mira called out,
